Team story

[p]Miramar Cycle for Redthread[/p][p]Recently we revealed that we would be supporting Redthread as our 2018 charity of the year. Redthread are a pioneering and innovative charity as the first hospital based violence-intervention charity in the UK, supporting and empowering young people in our capital and beyond. The charity supported 990 young people who had suffered serious violence between 2015 and 2017. Two thirds of victims had been stabbed. Research found a marked reduction in violence associated with nearly half of the young people helped by the charity six months after they left hospital.[/p][p]Shock figures[/p][p]At least 37 people have been fatally stabbed , in London since the beginning of 2018. Met Police records show 37,443 recorded knife offences and 6,694 recorded gun offences across the UK in the year up to September 2017. In London, the problem was even more pronounced than the rest of the country, with 12,980 knife crimes taking place in the capital – 2,452 more than the equivalent year. Four teenagers were stabbed to death in London on New Year’s Eve alone, and 22 were killed in March, meaning the capital now has a higher murder rate than New York[/p][p]Gearing Up[/p][p]Miramar and Redthread are committed to reducing these statistics, and we have begun this collaboration by committing to raising money for Redthread by taking part in the Prudential Ride 100, a testing route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics. [/p][p]Andrew Stoneham Knott, Richard Pitts and Phil Channon will be representing both Miramar and the charity at this famous event. Celebrating the legacy for cycling created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside. [/p][p]Our three intrepid participants are raising money to benefit Redthread, and are looking to smash the Miramar company target of £2,250.[/p][p]Of course, this is only the beginning for both organisations with each considering how else they can continue to collaborate to ensure maximum impact. The safety, happiness and health of young people is pertinent to us all and Redthread’s work and their achievements to date are admirable and humbling. We look forward to bringing you more news on this partnership as it happens.[/p][p]Please support our cyclists by donating here.[/p]
