My story

[p]I cannot recall having undertaken a charity fund raising event for many years.  As a consequence I am hopeful I am in fund raising credit.[/p][p]The South Downs Way, Winchester to Eastbourne, on foot, in 4 days.  It’s a Marathon a day for 4 days - with 2.4 miles of elevation.[/p][p]I have not run for over 10 years.  The longest event I think I have participated in previously is a 5km fun run.  I hate running.  I started training on 1 October and managed about 30 mins - slowly! Almost immediately I had to see a physio to switch on muscles that have been sleeping for a decade.  Pain moved from one knee to another, to my back and into my glutes.  I also have runners toenail.[/p][p]Slowly but surely through the cold dark winter I increased my distances and managed to run 24km’s over Box Hill in March.  At my final (10[sup]th[/sup]) physio session I mentioned a pain in my foot.  She poked it and I jumped off the bed.  Disaster, suspected stress fracture.[/p][p]Since then I have had an x-ray and just had an MRI to get a formal diagnosis.  The pain remains, the training continues.  I am running in the pool and leg kicking myself to death in the hope I can maintain some leg fitness and participate. Update 23 May – it’s NOT a stress fracture (or tendon damage) – so toughen up and run through the pain.  The Doc doesn’t know what is wrong with my foot and I am now waiting for an ultrasound.  But there is no ‘medical’ reason not to run (other than it hurts a bit!). Update 1 June - I have been back on the trails and whilst my foot is mildly uncomfortable my legs are screaming. But  its left foot, right foot, the body will follow...  Update 7 June the ultrasound showed a tiny area of liquid which is unlikely to be a problem.  i do though have a nobbly bone which is strssing out a couple of tendons and this is the problem.  Doc says "There is no real solution - so toughen up, get through the event and then dont run as much!"  Fine with me![/p][p]We are supporting 3 amazing charities in the UK.  All of the costs of the event are covered by Rockspring and so 100% of all donations go directly to the charities.[/p][p]In training for this event I have literally broken myself.  I continue to do everything I can to participate.  This surely deserves some sympathy donations.  Please dig deep to help us raise the ambitious target of £75,000.[/p][p]http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/SomeoneSpecial/Rockspring2017[/p]
