Team story

[p]David, Mark, Richard, Tom and Lee are riding RideLondon Surry 100 in aid of Mitrofanoff Support. Mitrofanoff Support is a charity close to David's heart as his nephew, Will, had to have the life-changing surgery a few years ago due to a chronic health issue. Whilst it is an amazing medical procedure, it can have long-term implications, both physical and mental, for those that live with it. Below are some comments from Will’s mum, Jo, which we hope provides some background.[/p][p]"Will has had many medical challenges over the last few years and will require support for the rest of his life. In order to save Will’s kidneys, he had to have a Mitrofanoff – this is a very rare and little-known medical procedure with little support available through the NHS. [/p][p]When sitting in hospital in the middle of the night in the depths of despair, this amazing charity and its members gave me and him the most incredible support – I couldn’t have managed without it. Since that time I have become a Trustee and my husband is involved in the day-to-day running of the charity to try to give something back.” [/p][p]The charity is small but spreads its support network nationwide. It provides information and reassurance to individuals and their families before and after this surgery through its website, Facebook group, and patient education days. It also attends conferences and works with healthcare professionals to improve education and communication about the procedure.[/p][p]The volunteers and Trustees give their time freely but the charity relies on the generosity of its sponsors, fundraisers and donors to support its 500+ members.[/p]
