Team story

[p]London Youth Rowing (LYR) provides opportunities for disadvantaged young people to experience the benefits of rowing through a range of coaching, inclusion and health programmes. LYR supports young people to develop skills, enhance their self-belief, and creates opportunities for them to fulfil their potential and experience success. We work with over 5,000 young people each year across London, focussed on the 12 most economically deprived London Boroughs. Young people taking part in LYR's programmes are highly diverse - in 2019/20, 69% were from a BAME background and 49% were female. In addition, 8% had special educational needs or a disability.[/p][p]Race The Thames 2021 is a virtual event that aims to raise funds to support LYR's work and to give teams taking part the chance to support another charity of their choice. Our team comprises 8 vet women rowers from Monmouth Rowing Club and we are raising money for LYR and our chosen charity for 2021 the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA). SARA is a volunteer lifeboat and inland search and rescue charity, with lifeboat and rescue stations along the length of the River Severn. Our team will taking on the challenge of rowing the length of the River Thames on indoor machines between 19th and 26th March, to support these fantastic causes.[/p]
