Team story

[p]We are delighted to announce Gloucestershire Young Carers as our charity of the year.[/p][p]Our main fundraising event this year will be a charity bike ride with a difference – a 175 km ride around "our patch" in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire on a seven-person bicycle called a Conference Bike. A Conference Bike is a circular bike with every rider pedalling while one cyclist – facing the direction of travel – steers and controls the brakes.[/p][p]The distance of 175 km is significant because this year we celebrate our 175th anniversary. The bike ride will call at our offices in Tetbury, Cirencester and Lechlade, and at farms where we hold our regular agricultural machinery sales.[/p][p]Associate partner Anthony Wright said: "In previous years we've smashed our fundraising target. Let's see if we can do it again!" [/p][p]Further fundraising events for the year will include our annual Big Breakfast, a dress down day and a quiz night later in the year. [/p][p]Gloucestershire Young Carers is an organisation that focuses on reducing the impact on the lives of children and young people who care for an adult suffering from physical or mental illnesses or, in some cases, substance abuse.[/p][p]There are an estimated 7,000 young carers in Gloucestershire, and the charity supports 1,000 of them. Their work involves running support groups, where the young carers can get help and advice from professionals while giving and receiving mutual support from their peers. The charity also provides day trips and events to give the young people brief respite from their caring role. [/p][p]Mental health support for the young people is also vital, with 40 percent of youngsters in a caring role reporting metal health issues like anxiety or depression. One-to-one counselling is also available. [/p][p][br][/p]
