My story

[lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]After running the London Marathon 6 years ago in 2010 (without much preparation and in a time of 6hours 8minutes),  I have finally decided to get off my bottom and challenge myself to beating that time in the London Marathon 2016 in April for the NSPCC which is worthy cause that I feel very passionate about.[/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]I currently work as a teacher in a school in London and have seen first-hand the great work the NSPCC does in schools through their education service.  Also in 2013 I had the great pleasure of adopting 2 children which have now become the main reason I have taken up running (to get some peace and quiet ha-ha only joking)[/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Some of the children the NSPCC helps can be; suffering from neglect, sexually abused, physically abused,  in high risk families, looked after, with disabilities, minority ethnic children, homeless children, and children in poverty .  It is truly alarming and heart-breaking what these children are faced with every day, and devastatingly, resources are limited and only a fraction of the government and voluntary sector’s budget is for these children which is why a charity like the NSPCC is so valuable. The NSPCC receives 82% of its funding from generous people who care about the safety of children. There is no single solution to stop child abuse, it remains widespread and mostly hidden, and the latest NSPCC research reveals that one in five children of secondary school age has been seriously abused in childhood.  The NSPCC is a charity that remains committed to ending cruelty to children and is inspired by the belief that we can make a difference for all children.[/p] [p][/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Alongside the goal of actually completing 26.2 miles (alive!!!) I have set myself a fundraising target of £2500 for the NSPCC and I will be truly so grateful for donations of any size as every little can make a huge difference:[/p] [p][/p][div=text-align: justify;]£5 could buy paints to help a child who has been abused to express their feelings and begin to feel like themselves again [/div][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]£12 could pay for 3 children to speak to a ChildLine counsellor[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]£25 could pay for a trained practitioner to deliver 1 hour of support through the NSPCC helpline to adults worried about a child [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]£160 could pay for a Pregnancy in Mind practitioner to help new parents with the ups and downs of having a baby. We can support them to provide sensitive and responsive care to their babies.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]£600 could pay for the NSPCC Schools Service to talk to 1 classroom of primary school children about abuse and where they can find help if they ever need it[/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Unfortunately I am not the lean, mean running machine I was in my younger days and running 26.2 miles for me is going to be a form of hellish torture….. every penny that I can raise will make it that little more bearable. Ultimately with any support and donations that you are able to provide, you are increasing the chance of preventing a child from suffering from abuse and motivating me to run that little bit faster for the cause!![/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt][/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I really appreciate any support and any donations.[/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt][/p] [lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]NB:  Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]UPDATE 03/03/16[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]I did it! Completed my 2nd London Marathon[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Thank You So Much for All Your Donations![/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt][span=text-decoration: underline;]UPDATE 21/04/16[/span][/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]So far I've had 7 cakes sales. We've had a Christmas Jumper Day and plan another mufti day with a running/marathon theme on the Friday before the marathon (Friday 24th April) [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]We've had a great night out on Friday 4th March. With a great quiz at The Royal Oak, in New Malden, raising £650[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]On the training front I've clocked up over 250 miles with my longest run of 20 miles completed during The Kingston Breakfast Run in a time of 4hr15mins![/p]
