My story

[p]Like so many, I didn't know much about lung cancer until it touched me personally. I really didn't know just how lucky I was that my cancer was treatable with surgery. Sadly so many people won't be so lucky. [/p][p]Lung cancer is the UK's leading cause of cancer death - somebody dies from lung cancer every 15 minutes.[/p][p]Through research, prevention and campaigning, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is working hard to change this. They're also there to give vital support to people living with lung cancer and people, like me, coming to terms with life afterwards. So I'm doing what I can to support them as they support people like me and like you. [/p][p]I'll be taking to my bike again this year with three rides. [/p][p]On April 29th I completed the 66-mile 2018 Étape Loch Ness. It was very tough, but a great day all the same. You can read a little about it here. [/p][p]Étape Caledonia on May 20th was a little longer at 85 miles.[/p][p]On September 9th it's another attempt at 100 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh for the Pedal for Scotland 'Big Belter'. [/p][p]But to spice things up a bit, this year I'm throwing in something that I've not done since I was a teenager... running. [/p][p]In June I ran (yes, ran!) the Glasgow Men's Health 10k. At the beginning of the year I could manage 100m on the treadmill. I ran the full 10k without stopping or walking. [/p][p]I enjoyed it so much that I've also added the Great Scottish Run 10k to the list of events for this year. That's at the end of September so could be a bit interesting with the weather.[/p][p]I really do appreciate all of the support and can't thank you enough for any donation you might be able to give. It really is for a very good cause.[/p][p]To read more about why I'm doing this, and to see how training is going, please check in on my blog at https://myleftlung.com.[/p][p]Thanks again[/p][p]Joe[/p][p]-----[/p][p]Update - 07/09/2018: [/p][p]Gutted and frustrated to have to report that I'm going to be unable to take part in the Pedal for Scotland ride this weekend.[/p][p]After struggling with a pain in my hip and back for several weeks I finally went to see the doctor earlier and it turns out it's my sacroiliac joint. [/p][p]I have some nice drugs now which the doctor says may be enough to let me train for the 10k at the end of the month, but 100 miles on the bike on Sunday isn't really an option.[/p][p]-----[/p]
