My story

[p]I am raising money for the fantastic Cameron Bespolka Trust.[/p][p]The Event[/p][p]To celebrate my 18th birthday which is on the 23rd September 2020, I am going to be do a sponsored wildlife walk at my favourite local nature reserve, RSPB Pulborough Brooks. I'm going to try and see as much wildlife as possible, vlog and photograph what I see along the way, and most importantly raise money for the Cameron Bespolka Trust. Check out my twitter @myabambrick1 to see updates. [/p][p]Why?[/p][p]Since the age of eight, I have had a strong passion for the natural world, especially birds. Most weekends, I go birding at my local nature reserves, such as RSPB Pulborough Brooks or Pagham Harbour, or watching the wildlife in my own garden. As I have grown up, my connection with nature and birding in particular has grown considerably. However, one thing stood out to me. The lack of young people in birding and the difficulties connecting and reaching out to those also interested. [/p][p]The Cameron Bespolka Trust[/p][p]I first became aware of the Cameron Bespolka Trust when I attended BTO Birdcamp in 2016 and 2018. This event, at the BTO headquarters in Thetford, Norfolk, was a weekend of birding, moth-trapping, and taking part in citizen science surveys with like-minded, young people also interested in the natural world. From then on I looked out for the trust and watched as it developed, lead by the inspirational Corinne Cruickshank, Cameron's mother. Cameron Bespolka was a passionate, dedicated young birder and wildlife enthusiast who died in 2013 in a tragic accident. The trust was set up in his memory and aims to inspire and engage teenagers to connect with the natural world. It does this through sponsoring and organising events, creating new opportunities and programmes, and working closely with various partners like the RSPB. In October last year, I was lucky enough to become a young ambassador for the trust. [/p][p]Cameron's Cottage[/p][p]Cameron's Cottage is one of the trust's most recent projects which is well under way. In partnership with the RSPB, the cottage, which is situated in the Franchises Lodge reserve in the New Forest, will be turned into a field centre. This will be able to host small groups of young people to carry out research in the local area, spend time in nature, and discover the wonderful wildlife of the New Forest. [/p][p]Donating[/p][p]Any donation, no matter if its £1 or £50, will go towards the inspirational work the Trust carries out to help engage the next generation with the natural world. We need young people to be connected with nature in order for the planet and our wildlife to be in safe hands for the future. [/p]
