Team story

[p]Welcome to the "NC500 Team Treatt" fundraising page, in support of MIND the mental health charity. The NC500 is a 500 mile scenic route that circumnavigates the remote roads around the Northern coast of Scotland, starting and finishing in Inverness. Ken and Barry (supported by Bruce & Rob) are going to attempt to cycle this spectacular route non-stop over the May Bank Holiday weekend. [/p][p]The NC500 was created in 2015 by the Scottish Tourist Board to encourage visitors to explore the remote wilderness of Sutherland, considered to be one of the most unspoiled areas of Northern Europe . It rapidly became one of the worlds top ten road trips, rivaling the Historic Route 66 in America. [/p][p]Since its inception the NC500 has become a challenge for endurance cyclists with most spending 2 weeks tackling the single track roads that require over 40,000ft of ascent to complete. In 2015 Mark Beaumont, the record holder for cycling around the world in 78 days, completed the NC500 on a bicycle non-stop in less than 40hrs. In 2016 James McCallum, Commonwealth Bronze Medalist, smashed it out non-stop in less than 32hrs. If the pro's can do it non-stop then so can we - we're Team Treatt! However, given that both our riders are over 50 we aiming for a more realistic time of less than 60hrs.[/p][p]Why raise money for Mind? Apart from the personal connections that Ken and Barry have to the Mental Health profession, we were taken aback last year by just how important MIND is to so many of our friends, colleagues and their families. During our fundraising efforts last year on the London-Edinburgh-London cycle challenge so many of you shared stories of how MIND had so positively impacted on your lives or those of your loved ones. We felt compelled to do something else to raise funds for such a vital support service that means so much to you. There isn't a major cycling event being held in 2018 that we can participate in, so we've created our own testing challenge that will push us to the limit both physically and mentally.[/p][p]The support we received last year was phenomenal, beyond our wildest expectations. This year we'd like to raise £1,000 in support of MIND. £1 for each mile that Ken and Barry need to cycle.[/p][p]Thank you, for taking the time out to support us.[/p][p]NC500 Team Treatt[/p][p]Ken Ferguson, Barry Kirby, Rob Arrowsmith & Bruce Sinclair[/p][p][br][/p]
