Team story

[p]Norrie Disease Foundation 25km Fundraiser! [/p][p]On 21st September Wendy Horrobin will be doing a sponsored 25km walk along the Thames Path with her wonderful sister Annie and friends, Andrea, Esther, Jane, Kate, Kathryn, Louise, NK, Natasha, Penny, Rachel and Sandrine to raise money for the Norrie Disease Foundation! With an average age of around 45 years (some just slightly older!) it's going to be quite a challenge![/p][p]In 2008 Wendy's son Josh was diagnosed with Norrie disease which has caused him to be blind. Norrie disease is a rare genetic condition causing blindness/severe visual impairment from birth. In addition to this most affected individuals suffer from progressive hearing loss often starting in early childhood.[/p][p]The Norrie Disease Foundation (NDF) is a UK based charity who promote pioneering research into Norrie disease and provide vital support to families.[/p][p]The NDF is on a mission to raise £62,500 by February 2020. This money will go towards Sparks and Great Ormond St Hospital Children’s Charity national funding call with the hope to treat the Norrie disease progressive hearing loss.[/p][p]Treating or slowing down the progressive hearing loss could mean the difference between independence as an adult, or not. Sound is incredibly important to those with a visual impairment, so developing an additional sensory loss in late childhood/early adulthood is particularly hard for the individual and can be very isolating. There is no cure for Norrie disease but being able to save the hearing would be life-changing for Josh and other boys like him in the Norrie community.[/p][p]£62,500 for a small, fledgling charity, solely run by volunteers is very ambitious but it gives the Norrie community hope.[/p][p] Anything you can spare to help would make an enormous, life changing difference to the Norrie community! [/p][p]Thank you so much![/p][p]Wendy, Annie, Andrea, Esther, Jane, Kate, Kathryn, Louise, NK, Natasha, Penny, Rachel and Sandrine[/p][p][br][/p]
