My story

[p]Hi all! Thank you for coming to visit my page, thank you for reading my story, and finally, thank you for sponsoring me (or is that too presumptive! 😉). [/p][p]So … why am I running the virtual london marathon? Really I have two reasons. Firstly, as a trustee of TSM I have seen first hand the amazing work they do in the Third Spaces of society - gyms, sports events, festivals, nightclubs, with DJs and with dancers in strip clubs. They bring hope, emotional support, provide a friendly ear and offer prayer and spiritual support if asked, and through this they have impacted many lives. (Check out their website for some stories!). Therefore when the opportunity came up to run the marathon and help them raise funds for the the work, a little voice said ‘Naomi, you should do that!’. I have to say though that this will NOT be easy for me, and that brings me on to my second reason. [/p][p]My friends will know that I like keeping fit but 8 years ago, I was diagnosed with blood cancer and have been having treatment for it on and off ever since. However in 2017 I was offered a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor, which was potentially the only way of truly suppressing my cancer. It was risky but I went for it. As a result I suffered badly with Graft vs Host disease (when the donor immune system attacked my own), which resulted in me almost loosing my life and spending 4 months in hospital where I lost a lot of my muscle mass. Through much prayer and by God’s grace I pulled through, and although still struggling with GvHD in my gut, mouth and kidneys 3 years on, I am a lot stronger and you wouldn’t know any of this from meeting me (well, other than the fact that I rattle if you shake me due to the number of pills I take!). God has been faithful through it all and the cancer is currently untraceable. :-) So as a result of the second chance I’ve been given, and to help get my fitness back up, I wanted to challenge myself and that is the second reason why I am running.[/p][p]I often think I am crazy, and this will be very hard as my health may play up again, but your sponsorship will definitely motivate me to keep going no matter what, and even if I have to walk around, I will do this!! ☺? X[/p][p][br][/p]
