My story

[p]Hey everyone! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and reading my story and inspiration behind why I am taking part in this incredible challenge![/p][p]Dementia is the biggest health threat facing society with 1 in 3 of us being affected by the disease in our lifetime. Not only does this cruel condition have a devastating affect on those with the disease, but also on their friends and family. There are currently no effective treatments to slow, prevent or cure it. [/p][p]But a revolution is growing - on the streets and in the laboratories. Scientists are gaining on dementia, making discoveries so that people living with this condition can lead more fulfilling lives. [/p][p]Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK are joining forces for a year-long campaign to power ground-breaking dementia research, overthrow old attitudes and lead the charge towards a cure. [/p][p]So what will the money I fundraise go towards:[/p][p]£30 powers an hour of cutting-edge microscopy to uncover the causes of dementia [/p][p]£100 pays for flasks and kits to keep essential experiments running [/p][p]£500 helps to fund state-of-the-art brain scans to reveal clues to dementia [/p][p]£1,000 buys specialist chemicals to understand what goes wrong in Alzheimer’s and other dementias and how we can stop it[/p][p]My personal inspiration for taking on the marathon is the affect that Alzheimer’s disease has had on my family. For 10 years or so my Granny lived with dementia. It was been heartbreaking to watch her personality change and memory slip away, and unfortunately she passed away in mid February of this year. I will definitely be inspired by her stoicism and determination throughout the race! Although she has not been able to be cured, hopefully the money raised by the Dementia Revolution can help science strive towards developing treatment and eventually a cure for the future. [/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Dementia Revolution charities; Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]Thank you for any money you are able to donate, it is so very much appreciated![/p][p]Please follow my Facebook page and Instagram (naomi.spencer) for updates on my training and fundraising.[/p][p]Lots of love,[/p][p]Naomi [/p][p][br][/p]
