My story

[p]UPDATE:[/p][p]I am delighted to say that on Sunday 9th June, I completed the Comrades marathon in 11hrs and 53minutes, with just 7 minutes to spare. [/p][p]At the time of writing we have raised an astonishing £15,000 which will make a huge difference to both of these charities. I am so humbled by the generosity of everyone. Your donations, messages of support really helped me in those dark moments during the race when I really had to focus hard on why I was there.[/p][p]My journey to the marathon and the race itself is a story in its own right, which if you wish to read, can be found here. I hope it spurs even just one person on to achieve their own impossible in the same way I found others’ achievements inspire my journey.[/p][p]Once again, thank you for your support.[/p][p]-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/p][p]Thank you for visiting my page and for thinking about donating to Eve Appeal and Jo’s Trust.[/p][p]After running 13 marathons, I have decided to run the Comrades Ultra Marathon, an 87km race in Durban. Not only is the race made up of many kilometres and in the heat of South Africa, which will be a feat in itself but the route includes a 2000m ascent over the entire course and entrants have to finish in under 12hours![/p][p]I have chosen to support Jo’s Trust and Eve Appeal. I am passionate about women's health but sadly as a gynaecologist I see many patients who have been affected by a gynaecological cancer. Every day in the UK, 58 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die. There is still a lot of work to do in raising the awareness, discovering new treatments and ultimately supporting women and their families through these diseases. These two charities are doing great work to bring gynaecological cancers to the forefront, onto the agenda and support groundbreaking research.[/p][p]I’m a keen runner but this is a huge challenge and I am anxious about what lies ahead. As a doctor, I often tell my patients to take one step at a time and that with the right planning, advice and support that there is a good chance of success and now I am having a dose of my own medicine. [/p][p]Every penny really helps me complete every race I do, and I have no doubt that it will be even more important this year. I am extremely thankful for any donation and to add extra support, my private practice, London Gynaecology, where we see thousands of women each year, will match the funds raised, up to £5000.[/p][p]With best wishes,[/p][p]Narendra Pisal[/p]
