My story

[p]***COVID INTERRUPTION UPDATE*** (16.08.2020)[/p][p]Well… what can I say? Not the year anyone could have predicted. The initial postponement of the marathon back in March and now the announcement, on the 6th August, that this years London Marathon would not take place in the way it has done since 1981 has brought about a rollercoaster of emotions. In its place will be the Virtual London Marathon on the 4th October. Having continued to train seriously since January and throughout lockdown I have decided to continue on my goal of completing the 26.2 miles to raise funds for The Book Trade Charity.[/p][p]Charities have been hit hard by this pandemic and I am determined to continue to raise the funds that I set out to at the start of this campaign/challenge. Since March The Book Trade Charity have set up the Covid-19 Hardship Fund for Booksellers which to date they have approved grants of over £110,000 to those adversely affected. With the cancelation of other main fundraising events, these smaller charities need our support now more than ever.[/p][p][br][/p][p](January 2020)[/p][p]Thank you for visiting my page. As many of you are aware I completed my first Marathon in Edinburgh back in 2017, in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society and together with your generosity we raised over £1500. It was one of the hardest mental and physical challenges I have ever attempted. Once again I am asking you all to dig deep and as I take on my next challenge of running the Iconic London Marathon, which has been on the top of my bucket List for many years and a personal challenge to myself. For motivation to help me achieve this goal I am combining it with running for Charity. ‘The Book Trade Charity’ has been helping people for over 180years. Below is a little insight into the charity.[/p][p]The Book Trade Charity (BTBS), established 1837, is the trade’s own welfare charity, offering help to anyone who has worked in the trade (employed, self-employed or freelance) in a range of roles across publishing, distribution and bookselling and who has a problem, whether personal, financial or health related. The Charity offers direct financial assistance to individuals in need through its Grants programme, giving over two hundred thousand pounds in 2017 and subsidised housing for some forty people at Kings Langley in Hertfordshire and thirty people at Whetstone in London. We have recently launched new initiatives to support young people entering the trade and undertaking internships. BTBS helps around 250 people a year, in circumstances which include disability, long-term illness, redundancy, debt including rent arrears, poverty, career situations.[/p][p]A big shout out and a huge THANKYOU to everyone in advance, especially my training buddies at the Wells City Harriers for all their constant support, advice and encouragement. I would also like to apologize to all my non-running friends as I may not see you so much as training commences and consumes my spare time over the next few months. Also to each and every one of you who will have to endure the constant marathon training talk! Sorry![/p][p]All the best and thank you for your support.[/p][p]Nat :) [/p][p][br][/p]
