My story

[p]My marathon journey started in October 2016 when I was diagnosed with cancer. At 37 years old with a young family I was absolutely petrified. Having had surgery I was referred to the great team at Mount Vernon for treatment. The amazing work they carry out given the victorian buildings in which they work is nothing short of a miracle. Following my treatment my sights then set on getting fit to get back to work. I began with the BBC couch to 5k app (helped by the soothing voice of Sarah Milican). Up to that point I think the furthest I had ever run was the 1500m at school! Now 3 years on, thanks to the work of the staff, nurses and doctors at Mount Vernon I am fit and well enough to hopefully (with your help) repay the debt. The people at CTRT have been good enough to allow me a place running for their charity. Please help me reach my fundraising target and allow them to continue their great work. Thank you for your support.[/p][p]Sun 6th October: Just completed my first competitive run; the Standalone 10k in Letchworth Garden City. A steady sub one hour finish time for me. Thank you all for your continued support.[/p][p]It has been postponed, cancelled and now it has gone virtual. I am still running it! Training has not stopped despite going on for nearly a year now. I'm not sure that means I'm any more prepared either.[/p][p]Thank you to those who have already donated, for your continued support.[/p][p]Next organised run is the Duxford Dash 10k on Sunday 13th. In theory that should be a walk in the park as I have now broken the 18 mile mark on my training runs. In theory![/p][p]I will update with plans for my virtual run as they evolve.[/p][p]Thank you again for your support.[/p][p]Almost there! I thought it was never going to happen. [/p][p]Sunday morning will see me leaving Mount Vernon at around 8am.[/p][p]With a tour through west and central Hertfordshire to Stevenage.[/p][p]It looks like the weather is not going to be favourable so I expect to be around 5 or 6 hours as the route I am running will be significantly more hilly than the actual Marathon route, which is basically flat😬[/p]
