My story

[p]In March 2015 one of my closest friends, Dan Hughes, suddenly passed away in his sleep. Tragically, Dan’s heart stopped beating without any warning signs or anything to indicate that he was going to lose his life so suddenly. He was only 28. [/p][p]There are no words to convey the sadness and emptiness that have befallen us since that day, but his passing has brought into focus the need for young people to have heart screening so that potential life threatening conditions can be detected and treated before more lives are lost. [/p][p]Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) is the charity that we have supported since Dan’s passing. Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions and since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death.[/p][p]In Dan’s memory, our latest fundraising activity will see me and 29 others cycle 408 miles including 30,500 feet of elevation (higher than Mount Everest) from Lands End to Bignall End in just 4 days beginning on 22 August 2018. Our total aim is to raise £15,000 for Dan’s fund where all money raised is pumped back into the local community to provide heart screening for young people between the ages of 14 and 35.[/p][p]Thank you so much for all of your continued support.[/p]
