[p]Admiral Collingwood led the first column into the enemy's line at the Battle of Trafalgar on board HMS Royal Sovereign. He assumed the position Commander-in-Chief on the death of Admiral Nelson.[/p][p]Collingwood was born in Newcastle and every year he is toasted at the Collingwood Memorial in North Tyneside on the date of the Battle of Trafalgar the 21st of October.[/p][p]Before the toast Lt Penny Thackray RN and Lt Stewart Weir RN plan to carry out a challenge on the steps of the memorial:[/p][p]It is 215 years since the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805[/p][p]Royal Sovereign had 100 guns (10 for every 10 guns)[/p][p]Admiral Collingwood served in the Navy for 5 decades[/p][p]215 x 10 x 5 = 10,750 steps[/p][p]They plan to run up and down the steps until 10,750 have been completed estimated to take 2 to 2.5 hours of continuous motion.[/p][p]Admiral Collingwood was known to be kind to his men earning him the nickname 'father' and for this reason money is to be raised for The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) who support serving personnel, veterans and their families.[/p][p]This event is now going virtual and the 10,750 will be carried out on stairs at home.[/p][p]Penny 26 steps it will be 207 times up and down the stairs.[/p][p]Stew 16 steps it will be 336 times up and down the stairs.[/p][p]Penny's photos [/p][p]Sooty waiting for me at the top like he did at all my athletic events[/p][p]How it started and How it finished.[/p][p]Completed in 1 hour 54 mins 40 sec[/p][p]Stew's Photos[/p][p]The stairs[/p][p]A heroes welcome by Cody [/p][p]Completed in 1 hour 44 mins 25 sec[/p]
