My story

[p]Hi,[/p][p]I am proud to have now completed all the three rides below, each of which was unique and challenging in their own way. The Tour de France Grand Depart stage ended up at 131.4 miles and was the hardest ride I have done, especially as a 15 mph direct headwind made me struggle a lot at times. But spending the weekend with 75 riders for Prostate Cancer UK was so uplifting to hear others stories and fundraising efforts. The overnight Dunwich Dynamo was 105 miles and an amazing atmosphere cycling through Essex and Suffolk countryside at night with some other riders lit up brighter than an Xmas tree! Last but not least was 101 miles on closed roads through London and Surrey in the Ride London Prudential 100, along practically the 2012 Olympics road race route. Leith and Box hills were hard but so satisfying when I got to the top. Ending through Westminster and along the Mall with crowds cheering was really special.[/p][p]A massive thank you to everyone who has supported me and donated to this worthy cause. I have raised far more than expected (and so keep increasing the target!) which helps makes all my training and effort more worthwhile. [/p][p][/p][p]Below explains the background....[/p][p]In June and July I am going to challenge myself by cycling 3 separate road bike rides, each of over 100 miles in a day.[/p][p]I'm starting with Le Grand Depart - the second stage of the Tour de France, a week before the professionals. It is from Dusseldorf in Germany to Liege in Belgium on 24 June. This will be 118 miles.[/p][p]A few weeks after that I am riding the Dunwich Dynamo. A 125 mile ride through the night from Hackney in the east end of London to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast.[/p][p]At the end of July I will finish off with the Prudential London 100 mile ride, including much of the route used for the road race in the 2012 London Olympics.[/p][p]I am thankfully recovered and clear of my prostate cancer but many are not as lucky as I was.  It has taken a few years for me to really want to do long rides such as these again and be committed to the mental and physical challenges they and the hard training beforehand bring. I have only ridden 100+ miles 4 times in the past, with my longest being 108 miles. So it really is a big challenge for me to train sufficiently and achieve these rides.[/p][p]Your support for the charity will definitely encourage me and means so much to those who have, or will need to deal with the effects of prostate cancer, both directly and indirectly.[/p][p]Thank you in advance for your generous suport.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p]
