My story

[p]As part of an ongoing effort from all at Brentford Football Club to raise awareness of cardiac related issues in young people and in memory of the club's former Technical Director Robert Rowan, I will be running the Manchester Marathon in October. [/p][p]Rob died suddenly in November 2018 after suffering a fatal cardiomyopathy episode. He is still fondly remembered by all at Brentford FC and staff will be thinking of Robert and his family on Sunday, 12 September, on what would have been his 31st birthday.[/p][p]By running at Manchester I will be aiming to support two incredibly worthwhile charities in their joint efforts to provide the young people of Brentford and the surrounding surrounding area with a combination of life saving cardiac screening, AED equipment for sports and educational facilities and the training required for staff to use this equipment.[/p][p]Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust will work together, using all funds raised by this challenge to detect previously unidentified and potentially life threatening cardiac issues and, in the event of a cardiac event taking place, offer the equipment and training required to save a life.[/p][p]Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its formation in 1995, CRY has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death. In addition the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust has established itself as a pioneering organisation for the local community. It uses the power of sport to motivate and inspire people from all backgrounds.[/p][p]Working together, I hope that we can achieve something very special to support the local community and ensure that Rob's name continues to be associated positively with Brentford FC and the friends and colleagues who continue to miss him. [/p][p]Please donate whatever you can and share this story with your friends and family.[/p][p]Thank you.[/p][p]Neil[/p][p][br][/p]
