My story

[p]Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to read this.[/p][p]My name is Neil Hancock and I have been involved with the RNLI in many areas for the last 37 years. All of this involvement in our fabulous organisation could not have prepared me for events that were to overtake my family and I in the summer of 2016.[/p][p]We were eagerly expecting the arrival of our second granddaughter in late June 2016.[/p][p]Roseanne Joni Tait was born naturally at 0110 hrs on Monday 27th June 2016. She weighed in at 7lb 7 ½ oz. Sadly our little princess’s heart stopped beating some days before, we don’t know why, so our little angel was born sleeping.[/p][p]She may not have drawn breath in this world but she has been loved from the start and will always be part of our family and our memories.[/p][p]The support my family and I received from across all areas of the RNLI was incredible and so humbling. It just reminded me what an extended family we are.[/p][p]We also received tremendous support from a local group called Teardrop. These are part of the national support network for bereaved parents.[/p][p]So much comfort and support from the group and my RNLI family made sense of some of the darkest days of my life. [/p][p]This year I will be raising money for the Teardrop Support Group, part of the Northumberland Health Care Trust and the SPRING support group at Poole Hospital.[/p][p]Working for many years out of RNLI HQ in Poole I realised that I have seen many of my younger colleagues marry and have children and it is a sad fact that this bereavement support is required throughout the country. One of my friends who lives in Poole recently had the gift of a gorgeous baby girl which prompted me to think of giving to Poole Hospital.[/p][p]The money raised will be split equally between the two charities.[/p][p]Last year, Team Roseanne ran the GNR carrying the tree (in the pictures below) with names of our angels engraved on the leaves. This year I am carrying the tree in two events. Firstly the Great North Run on 9th September and then the Para's 10 at Catterick the following Sunday.[/p][p]The tree jingles as I run and it sounds like the angels are talking to me.....that keeps me going....[/p][p]I am retiring from the RNLI at the end of August and instead of presents or good wishes, maybe even those who are thinking 'thank god that cantankerous old so and so has gone' please donate to this great cause. Give me a penny or a pound it all counts.[/p][p]Thank you so much,[/p][p]Neil[/p]
