My story

[p]Welcome to my fundraising page were you can find out about the cause that I am raising money for and a bit about me and my challenge.[/p][p]First of all the challenge is quite simple, 3 x 2,500m open water swims in three days. This is the equivalent of 300 lengths of a standard swimming pool or 7.5km or 4.7 miles. A bit more about this later.[/p][p]Now to the fund. I have chosen the Pass the Smile for Ben Crowther Fund which raises money for the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group. Pass The Smile for Ben Crowther is a Special Named Fund at CCLG, raising money for research into rhabomyosarcoma and supportive care, including nutrition and complementary therapies and was set by his parents Scott & Sarah Crowther. Scott has been a work colleague of mine at WMG since I started there as a contractor in 2017. Treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma has not advanced for decades and survival rates are poor, more research into better, kinder, targeted treatments is desperately needed. There is more about Ben and his fight against rhabomyosarcoma in the link below.[/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/PassTheSmileOrg/[/p][p]So why did I decide on a swim challenge to raise money for CCLG? Well I started to think about this last year after completing the 1.5km open water Swimathon in August and thinking it would be good to raise some money at the next Swimathon weekend in March 2020 for a nominated charity. To begin with I just thought about entering the 2.5km March Pool Swimatlon and after trying a couple of 2km swims felt that this was not a big enough challenge so decided to go for three 2.5km swims in three separate pools over the March Swimathon Weekend. Also entering three Swinathon events in the process. It was a simple as that!! Well that was the original plan until the Covid-19 pandemic which put a stop to that. So how to still do the sponsored swim this year? Simple, rather than a swimming pool I will do the same challenge/distance in a lake. Its a bit more fun and easier to count he laps, the lakes I will be swimming in have 400m and 500m laps so I will only have to count up to 5 or 7 rather than 100! Presently, the lakes I will be using are Lanches Lakes and Netherton Reservoir over three days in September. [/p][p]17th September - Lenches Lakes, Church Lench.[/p][p]18th September - Netherton Reservoir, Dudley.[/p][p]19th September - Lenches Lakes, Church Lench.[/p][p]I will of course update you all if there are any changes to venues or change to the plan as we get closer to the dates.[/p][p] As a fund raising target I am setting a target of £300 so hoping that you can all help with getting to that amount.[/p][p]I'm off to the lake now to get in a few more laps.[/p][p][br][/p]
