My story

[p]Update: 4th October 2021.[/p][p]t's all over. I crossed the finish line yesterday in 4 hours and 32 minutes. I knew it would be tough and "the wall" was as vicious as it could have been. I made it though :)[/p][p][br][/p][p]This update is to talk about gratitude and community.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Gratitude for making it past the finish line, for all the wonderful people in my life that helped me through the training and to those that donated to the fantastic cause that is Worldwide Cancer Research .[/p][p][br][/p][p]I was asked a great question by Karen Ormiston about my highlight of the race. I thought for a while (those that know me know that long distance runs and I aren't best buddies). My instinct was to say London Bridge, soaking up the magnificent sights in glorious sunshine. However, that's not true. It was the people. Everyone from my fellow runners to the people banging pots and pans, to the boxes of sweets being offered, to the kids holding out their hands for a high five, eager to feel the energy from the event.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The people of London made the marathon something extraordinary. The sense of encouragement and support was palpable. I cannot think of a situation where I've experienced such an overwhelming number of people all unified with one purpose: to ensure everyone got across the finish line.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you. It was an experience that will stay me forever. Hopefully the blisters won't though.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Here's my original post...[/p][p]The £40 trainers I bought on Groupon about 8 years ago have been dusted off.[/p][p]The white socks have made a return to the front of the drawer.[/p][p]I’ve even printed off a plan.[/p][p]I’m doing it! Well that is what I keep reminding myself. I’m running the London Marathon this year supporting Worldwide Cancer Research.[/p][p]I need all the support I can get please for two reasons:[/p][p]1. the moral support to keep me training[/p][p]2. the financial support for a wonderful cause[/p][p]The financial support is especially important because it’s going to a cause that I believe in and close to my heart.[/p][p]For those of you that know me well, you’ll remember I had my own journey with the big C. So I want to do what I can to help create a future without cancer. I want my two young boys to live in a world where cancer is less of a threat.[/p][p]That is why I am fundraising for Worldwide Cancer Research. They start cancer cures by funding the most innovative and ground-breaking projects around the world, with one mission: to ensure that no life is cut short by cancer.[/p][p]Your support means a lot. Thank you.[/p][p][br][/p]
