My story

[p]Hi, thank you for visiting my page. My name is Nicholaus, a team member of Jesuit Missions for London Marathon 2017. As an alumnus of the Jesuit-based Canisius College High School in Indonesia, I have a strong affiliation with The Jesuits, in particular how Jesuit education has entirely shaped myself.[/p] [p]As a weekly recreational 10-miler, running for me was just for the sake of running and it never crossed my mind before to run for a good cause, let alone to be a £2,000 fundraiser. It was not until the last Christmas that I read an announcement posted by Jesuit Missions -an international development charity organization affiliated by Jesuits's works in poor area- that it was recruiting members for London Marathon 2017 team. Then I started to ask myself: why not try to run for a good cause by supporting Jesuit Missions considering our similar affiliation? I copy below a glimpse of what the charity did with the fund coming from the last two marathons.[/p] [lt]p style="padding-left: 30px;"[gt]"Jesuit Missions helps poor people in countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.  In the past two years, marathon funds have helped refugees caught up in the fighting in the Middle East, including providing food in Damascus and counselling for families in Iraq.”[/p] [p]For 2017, your donation will be used to support Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) International campaign's Mercy in Motion with its tagline "Education for refugee children and youth. Protecting rights-investing in peace." In particular, your donation will be used to support education for local communities and refugee in South Sudan so they will be having brighter future. Here are the details of where your donation will go through[/p][lt]p style="padding-left: 30px;"[gt]£10 and we contribute in providing comfort kits including soap and sanitary pods for a girl in secondary school[/p][lt]p style="padding-left: 30px;"[gt]£26 and we contribute in providing primary school pupil's supplies for a year[/p][lt]p style="padding-left: 30px;"[gt]£50 and we can brighten up their nights by paying a solar lantern[/p][lt]p style="padding-left: 30px;"[gt]£100 and we pay a monthaly salary for a community librarian[/p][lt]p style="padding-left: 30px;"[gt]£300 and we can provide good transportation for teachers by buying them a bicycle[/p][lt]p style="padding-left: 30px;"[gt]£500 and we can have more smiles coming from South Sudan children since we will contribute for their recreation activity for a month[/p] [p]Most of us might probably take for granted the access for education, including me. However, it is probably an invaluable treasure for people living in South Sudan. And don't we think that education is actually a right for all of us?[/p] [p]Thus say, I would be very grateful if you can support this noble Jesuit Missions' project with your donation and do not worry, every penny counts. £2,000 would be my baseline and I expect to raise as much as I could. You need not to run the marathon since I will take care of that. I know that we may not know each other before and you may doubt my ability to run for a marathon, and hence discourage you to donate for the charity. But, I hope my recent running log will take away your doubt and encourage you to donate Jesuit Missions. And together, we can be what I have always been taught by Jesuits: to be men and women for and with others.[/p][p]4 February 2017 Another long distance running was logged here. So, cast away your doubt and support me for Jesuit Missions :)[/p][p]19 February 2017 An 18 mile fast finish long distance running was logged here. Please cast your doubt away and we build education in South Sudan together :)[/p][p]5 March 2017 Another long run was logged here. Please kindly support me and JM![/p]
