My story

[p]UPDATE 8 JUNE: date for the substitute run has now been fixed as 14 June. This will be from Whitstable to Ramsgate (+ any extra pootering needed for the full 50 km. Not too late to sponsor me.[/p][p]UPDATE 26 APRIL: regret to say I've been laid low by some sort of bug. Came on evening of 22 April. Now recovering but not fast and I will not be fit to do the ride 29 April. I'll instead do the same 50km distance as soon as I'm better - details to follow. Apologies.[/p][p]I'm raising money for the great work of Canterbury Housing Advice Centre. CHAC focuses on preventing homelessness, much of its work with families.[/p][p]I've been closely involved with CHAC for many years. I've done this 50km ride before and it's pretty gruelling - longer than a marathon (though admittedly I do get to use my bike). Last time was some years ago and this time will be in the week I qualify for the state pension. So there will need to be serious training in advance of the ride.[/p][p]Please do consider sponsoring me even if you've done it before - CHAC still needs the money! 30% of your donation goes to the KM Charity, 70% to CHAC. Many thanks to those people who have already made donations - great encouragement to stick to the training.[/p][p][br][/p][p]First picture: Sam Gravelle and me on a Canterbury / Whitstable training run. Next couple illustrate my individual iron training regime: cycled to Faversham Wetherspoons for lunch and notice that a salad has been substituted for the default chips. Boat on Faversham creek illustrates how I felt by the end of the ride - which is worrying since it was 1/2 the Big Bike Ride distance. Final two pictures below are from previous successful rides for CHAC - fingers crossed I can still do it. [/p][p][br][/p]
