My story

[p]On April 26th 2020, I'm going to be running the London Marathon in order to raise money for The Outward Bound Trust (OBT). I'm also going to be giving up alcohol between my 30th birthday and the starting line (3.5months)... you decide which one you think is going to be the bigger challenge for me! [/p][p]As long as I've been teaching, I've been running trips with Outward Bound. Next year, as well as being my 30th birthday, will also be the year I meet the random target I set myself as an NQT of taking 1000 students on Outdoor Ed residentials. OBT are the charity that have made that possible. Every child I've taken on an OBT residential has received at least 50% off, due to the way the charity do bursaries and subsidies for children in deprived areas. I want to do something to give back to that wonderful pot of money. [/p][p]I make no secret of the fact that my life has been infinitely improved by the experiences I have had in the outdoors. I am incredibly lucky that my parents instilled in me a love of being in the mountains and the countryside, but also, all the additional skills that come from testing yourself in challenging settings. From a young age, I was taught that resilience, optimism and enthusiasm will see me well through life. The mountains are the perfect setting for introducing our children to these important life skills, and they make the perfect metaphor for life: you have to work hard uphill sometimes to get the reward of the summit. I want to ensure that as many children as possible are given the opportunity I was so fortunate to get from my parents. [/p]
