Team story

[p]Update - The ride was completed on Sunday June 10th by all participants. The weather was kind to us as we crossed hill and dale, the stronger riders helping and encouraging those less experienced cyclists. We showed grit and determination to conquer both Kirkstone Pass and the Pennine hills and enjoyed three great evenings along the way. Our thanks go out to all who took part and to all who have kindly donated to very worthy causes. Of course a special mention has to go out to Nicole's partner Andrew who rode magnificently on this journey which has been a fitting tribute to a very special person.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you for supporting our fundraising bike ride in memory of Nicole Mann.[/p][p]The Barrow to Jarrow route was planned by Nicole with Vanessa in the summer of 2016. Nicole was poorly with a bad cough/chest infection but wanted something to look forward to when she felt better. The route was designed to be a coast to coast ride based on similar sounding names on opposite coasts. In 2015 Nicole had cycled another coast to coast epic with Vanessa (mostly in the rain) from Barmouth to Yarmouth. It was the memories of this ride that prompted her to create this route.[/p][p]Sadly Nicole never recovered from her cough as she was finally diagnosed with stage four lung cancer (even though she had never smoked and had cycled most of her life) in the autumn of 2016 and the impact was so severe that she was unable to ride her bike again. Nicole died on 5th October 2017, exactly a year after the diagnosis.[/p][p]We were sad that Nicole never had the opportunity to cycle the route she had planned so a group of us decided to do the ride in her memory. Andrew will be riding Nicole's Dawes Galaxy and doing many of the hills that he watched Nicole climb up on her bike from the comfort of his car. The ride will be challenging both physically and emotionally but will also be a lot of fun. We will take lots of moments to think of Nicole and to admire the route that she designed. Knowing Nicole the route will have some very hilly elements which she would have done at full speed. We will laugh together as we remember her scathing comments as we do our best to complete the route. [/p][p]The ride is also an opportunity to raise funds for the 3 charities that supported Nicole and Andrew as they struggled to deal with the devastation that a diagnosis of terminal cancer causes to lives and dreams. This fund will also be open for other fundraising efforts you might like to make in memory of Nicole.[/p][p][br][br][/p][p][br][/p]
