Climbing Ben Nevis was one of the most amazing things I have experienced. The change of landscape as well as temperature was surprising; I could barely stand the cold! We only had a few minutes to take pictures when we reached the summit. When I took off my gloves, it felt like ice. It was an incredible experience and I am looking forward to visiting Scotland again and seeing ancient monuments and beautiful scenery. [lt]/div[gt] [lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"[gt]All the money raised through my fundraising will be used by Survival to campaign for threatened tribal peoples in my country Brazil and around the world. Please help me reach my target. [lt]/div[gt] [lt]p class="p1"[gt]Dear Survival Friends,[/p][lt]p class="p1"[gt]My name is Nixiwaka. I am a 27-year-old Amazon Indian from the Yawanawá (‘People of the Wild Boar’) tribe in western Brazil. I came to London to learn English and in 2013 I joined Survival to speak out for indigenous rights.   [/p][lt]p class="p1"[gt]When the first nawa (white people) arrived in my country in 1500 there were about 11 million tribal people, by the 1950s there were only 100,000. The nawa murdered, tortured and exploited us for our land and our resources. Our traditional medicines did not heal us against the diseases they brought and many of our customs were lost when our old people died.[/p][lt]p class="p1"[gt]It is a very important time for indigenous rights in Brazil – the world’s eyes are on us because of the World Cup and the Olympic Games. Few people know about the history of Brazil and what is happening to our tribes today. I also want people to know Brazil’s new wealth still comes at a human price – the blood of my people.[/p][lt]p class="p1"[gt]This June I am going to walk Hadrian's Wall in support of Survival. All the money raised through my fundraising will be used by Survival to campaign for threatened tribal peoples in my country Brazil and around the world. [/p][lt]p class="p1"[gt]Thank you for helping me. [/p][lt]p class="p1"[gt]Muito obrigado, Nixiwaka Yawanawá.[/p]
