My story

[p]NB We are limited to SIX photos so they will always be the previous 6 monthly compilation 'banners'(see below)[/p][p]____[/p][p]♡ Thank you to ALL sponsors who've already given generously ♡[/p][p]____[/p][p]This is a Fundraiser in aid of MS Trust who say:[/p][p]"Our vision is to ensure that nobody has to manage MS alone"[/p][p]____[/p][p]If you would like more news about the MS Trust on social media[/p][p]go here to facebook and here to instagram[/p][p]____ [/p][p]About the No Beard Or Hair Cut & Colour for December Fundraiser[/p][p]Please join Pete as he raises money for Multiple Sclerosis Trust. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate a little or a lot[/p][p]Yes, that's right - no hair or beard cutting for the whole of 2019. At the end of the year, Pete will have his hair and beard dyed, three colours:[/p][p]Blue and White for MS Trust, with Tangerine to make the colours used by Pete's hometown football club. Oldham Athletic AFC[/p][p]Please note: we are standing the costs of dying Pete's Beard and Hair at the end of the year. All other costs are ours too. What you see raised is for the MS Trust[/p][p]Every month, we will post new photos to show Pete's progress[/p][p]Please Gift Aid your donation if you are a UK Tax payer[/p][p]Update 12/05/2019[/p][p]Last week some very good friends of Pete's donated - one (Pete's football mate) online here and another couple through Pete's Men in Sheds group. The first donation was £10 and the second one was £100. Both donations should also accrue Gift Aid. [/p][p]Now that we are over one-third the way along this year of fundraising, we are thrilled to announce the total has exceeded the £1000 target (including applicable Gift Aid that we will add once MS Trust verify the claim).[/p][p]To keep up interest in the Fund, and increase the help the MS Trust will receive, we are raising the target to £1500.[/p][p]A local news publication recently interviewed Pete - here's the link to the page in their online issue.[/p][p]https://issuu.com/kingswoodvoice/docs/may_combined/12[/p][p]Update 01/05/2019[/p][p]The latest set of photos (banner above and gallery below) show how much Pete's beard is really racing along. And you can see his hair has done some creeping down his neck too. Scruffy? No, he's my hero![/p][p]Update 30/04/2019[/p][p]Great news! During MS Awareness Week (last week) a further £107.20 was added to the Fund plus £8.75 Gift Aid on sponsored donations.[/p][p]Pete sat at an info and fundraising table in Kings Chase Shopping Centre (photo below) on Wednesday 24th April. It was a damp, chilly day with less shoppers being just after Easter. He will repeat the exercise again soon and definitely on 21st August.[/p][p]The £107.20 comprised:[/p][p]- £35 in offline sponsorship (plus the Gift Aid) from 4 people including two at Sam's Hair Salon (where Pete will be having his hair dyed at the end of this year)[/p][p]- £72.20 cash collection including the loose change we've amounted at home since last December[/p][p]So here we are at the end of the first 4 months with a grand total that is 86% of the target - even closer to it with Gift Aid realised - see above![/p][p]WELL DONE EVERYONE - THANK YOU[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 16/04/2019[/p][p]Since last week, we have received a total of £50 (plus Gift Aid, if applicable) on this site, with our sincere thanks going to Lucy, Liz and Celia.[/p][p]Yesterday, a neighbour handed £20 (plus Gift Aid, if applicable) to Pete, making a total increase of £70 in a week. You are all stars - THANK YOU xx[/p][p]On Wednesday 24th April from 10am you can meet Pete & Beard at Kings Chase Shopping Centre - follow the link for directions etc. He will be at a table in the main shopping area. The table will hold lots of MS Trust goodies and information. Please give Pete as much support as you can. Offer to go and buy him a coffee (he will pay) and you will be a SuperStar.[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 07/04/2019[/p][p]This week we've had a donation of £10 plus Gift Aid from Mike & Adele of Hull. They are related to Pete by marriage. We don't see them often so I am sure they are hoping to stroke the beard later this year.[/p][p]I am sorry you've had few updates lately - even this month's photo update is late. Sadly, I've had a return match with Trigeminal Neuralgia which is part of my MS symptom portfolio. Lasting 2 months so far, I've had a major medication overhaul and still do not feel like "me". Sleep has been an issue, a persistent dry mouth, throat and cough, other ailments that do nothing for my morale, and I'm genuinely fed up. But I have Pete, my secret weapon in life. Not only is he a beard grower but also my chief carer, cook, homemaker and good egg. Thanks Pete xx[/p][p]The photos this month show a beard that now doubles as a scarf on chilly days. It is good to see the progression as Pete thinks it's a (too) slow grow![/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 21/03/2019[/p][p]This past week has increased the Fund by £30 (plus Gift Aid as applicable) on this website.[/p][p]Today, a further £10 cash plus Gift Aid was donated in cash, by signed sponsorship form, from Brian M, our next door neighbour.[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 10/03/2019[/p][p]A message from the bard himself... oops, don't I mean the Beard?[/p][p]"Hide behind the sofa and keep the kids away. It's for their own good.[/p][p]A bit of messing about this morning proves that a hairy face grows quicker than a hairy head. The three colours, taken from an Oldham Athletic scarf, are all set for late November by Shirley's hairdresser. [/p][p] [see below][/p][p]Before the dyeing (colour, that is) session, though, the manager of the local shopping precinct (Kings Chase in Kingswood, Bristol) has agreed to me having a table and fundraising display on 24th April (the middle of MS Awareness Week) and 21st August. I've never done anything like that before, so it should be interesting.[/p][p]Also, in August, after a visit to The Shard in London for a three course lunch (a present from son and daughter-in-law) Shirl and I are going to the MS Trust's head office in Letchworth Garden City for an interview and video recording for the website.[/p][p]Starstruck? Me? Nah."[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 04/03/2019[/p][p]Received from our friend Anna Vigor the sum of £10 cash, donated with gift aid. Thanks Anna xx[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 02/03/2019[/p][p]Our new photo banner, taken on 1st March, indicates how much Pete's beard is filling out now. The reverse image shows his hair IS growing and has come further than immediately obvious if you remember Pete used to clip really short. Every week. He really did not like to be scruffy! Now look at him.[/p][p]Now for news about the growing fund (puns are aplenty). For the first time, (although this is Saturday not Sunday or Monday), the total has not shifted. However, we continue to receive kind verbal pledges, two more sets of sponsor forms and leaflets have been taken to various groups, and one of the verbal pledges has promised a sum at the close of the year that amounts to [/p][p]£(n x 12) with n being a monthly figure[/p][p]Does anyone else, who has not yet donated, wish to make this type of pledge? [/p][p]And[/p][p]Does anyone want a set of sponsor forms and leaflets to take to a club or group in their area?[/p][p](the latter would work best by post if donations are cheques paid to "MS Trust" with sponsor forms signed with full details for Gift Aid. These (and the cheque/s) can then be returned to us for paying into the MS Trust bank account. We can be reached via our FB profiles/Messenger and other places you may have read about this fundraiser.[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 24/02/2019[/p][p]It's Sunday, time to let you know all that's happened this past week:[/p][p]We've received kind donations amounting to £85 this past week - fabulous. Thank you to all those involved.[/p][p]The total donations, so far, are £617.50 plus Gift Aid not yet administered and claimed by MS Trust.[/p][p]Pete's beard has visibly increased. He is the proud owner of a little bottle of beard oil. A couple of drops tames the whiskers, you see. And makes them rather attractive to my nose.[/p][p]We have some good news too - but we cannot confirm it quite yet. [/p][p]And a request - please let us know if you would like to know more about why, how and when Pete decided on this challenge. We are on Facebook &, therefore, Messenger, rather than publicising our email addresses. And we are on your friendly forums, of course.[/p][p]Until next week, enjoy the calm UK weather and wait for the Friday 1st March PHOTOGRAPHS![/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 17/02/2019[/p][p]It's Sunday, time to let you know all that's happened this past week:[/p][p]We've received kind donations from Geoff Millard and from wsm sandy. I mention these because they are two kind donors we do not (think we) know in person, or from places we frequent online. I will edit this if we find out we do know them - and apologise in triplicate.[/p][p]The total donations, so far, are £532.50 plus Gift Aid not yet administered and claimed by MS Trust.[/p][p]Pete's beard has been assessed by our local hairdresser, Sam. In other words, admired and stroked. Choosing dyes for November has begun, and hair treatment needed now was advised.[/p][p]It is the mention of plaiting that seems to make Pete shake with nerves - or appear to do so.[/p][p]There has been a lot of emailing and letter-writing by Pete, to newsprint and online media outlets. We hope to confirm his new image & fame soon![/p][p]Me? I look fine as I am, and keep taking the medicines that get me through each day. Having the fingers that spread the online word keeps me happy. Please let us know if you would like to know more about the way MS affects my daily living.[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 12/02/2019[/p][p]Gift Aid your donation if you can. It really helps. We've heard from MS Trust that the £120 cash donations, we recently paid in, have earned £22.50 in Gift Aid. Thank you everyone![/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 10/02/2019[/p][p]It's Sunday, time to update everyone about the VirginMoneyGiving MS Trust Fundraiser - or is that HairRaiser?[/p][p]The current target is £1000 - as this is a year--long challenge, watch how the target will change as the fund progresses. [/p][p]The total donations, so far, are £480 or 48%.[/p][p](The offline donations, so far, are £230 or 23%.)[/p][p]Those donations include £110 transferred from the original Facebook fund. [/p][p]Amazing progress, and Pete's beard is growing well too. His hair has also filled out from the usual clipped format.[/p][p]My Psychedelic HairyMan is on his way.[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 08/02/2019[/p][p]As well as the donations listed on this site, we've had:[/p][p]£110 transferred as an offline amount from closure of the Facebook Fundraiser page.[/p][p]donated by Joy L, Shirley D, Michelle T, Emma L, Arlene F, David N & Joe P[/p][p]NB We have learned from MS Trust that:[/p][p]"the Gift Aid is not claimed by us on Facebook as the consent process hasn't been confirmed as compliant and in line with our processes. This may change further down the line, but at present we are not receiving any Gift Aid from Facebook so the total [raised there] is £110." [/p][p]As shown on the details above. Another reason why the Facebook Fundraiser is not as favourable as the VirginMoneyGiving site.[/p][p]£120 received offline from Pete's Men in Sheds mates. Thanks all of you! Included on this sponsor form is a donation from Pete's Table Tennis mate, Nigel, with our thanks. He has a double identity as he is also one of the Men in Sheds.[/p][p]The above payments from Men in Sheds and Table Tennis mate, Nigel, have been noted by MS Trust and, once they have processed the signed sponsor form, we will let you know the Gift Aid raised from these marvellous donations.[/p][p]_____[/p][p]Update 06/02/2019[/p][p]Videos are a good way to learn about MS, whether you feel you might have symptoms, or if you have just been diagnosed.[/p][p]You do not need to buy these helpful materials:[/p][p]Subscribe here for excellent MS Trust advice[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 01/02/2019[/p][p]New photos! Pete's beard is now fluffy and soft, filling out under his chin, in the throat area which used to be shaved. His hairline at the back of his head is creeping down (no photo, I will take one in March) but look at the top of Pete's head - definitely regrowth going on.[/p][p]On the topic of photos, we are opening an album online - link will be available soon[/p][p]Meanwhile, each month's new photos will be down at the foot of this text.[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 31/01/2019[/p][p]This is now the only online fundraiser for Pete's No Beard Or Hair Cut for MS Trust so the goal was doubled from 1st February 2019, and the total raised on the Facebook Fundraising page was added to the Raised offline total (above).[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 28/01/2019[/p][p]It's Monday, time to update everyone about the Fund across both Fundraiser sites, Facebook and Virgin.[/p][p]The joint target is £1000[/p][p]The joint donations, so far, are £350 = 35%[/p][p]Those donations were made in 1 week with 51 to go[/p][p]Amazing progress, and Pete's hair is growing well too.[/p][p]____[/p][p]Update 26/01/2019[/p][p]Wow! This fund is nearly halfway to target in 6 days. Stay tuned though - we're here for another 369 days. Who knows what might happen? Apart from the appearance of a multi-coloured beard in December.[/p][p]____[/p][p]And we've only just begun...[/p][p]Sunday 20th January 2019... Pete is ready to show his hair-so-far...[/p][p]____[/p][p][img][/img][/p][p]Are you looking for the idea behind this fundraiser?[/p][p]Please join Pete as he raises money for Multiple Sclerosis Trust. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate a little or a lot. Anything helps. [/p][p]Yes, that's right - no hair or beard cutting for the whole of 2019. At the end of the year, Pete will have his hair and beard dyed, three colours:[/p][p]Blue and White for MS Trust, with Tangerine to make the colours used by Pete's hometown football club. Oldham Athletic AFC,[/p][p]Every month, we will post new photos to show Pete's progress. And the editor will try to improve on the set used in January![/p][p]____[/p]
