My story

[p]Overton Black Arrows Fund Raising[/p][p]This year the Overton Black Arrows archery club is to be raising money for Stepping Stones Down Syndrome Support Group. This is an exceptionally worth while charity which supports children and young people with Down Syndrome and their families across North Hampshire, South East Berkshire and West Surrey.[/p][p]UPDATED - Charity 252 Challenge with Overton Black Arrows[/p][p]Originally we had planned to complete our Race the Sun challenge (see below) on the 20th June 2020 to raise as much money as we can for Stepping Stones. Unfortunately, the global pandemic and resulting Government and Archery GB guidance has mean that we will be unable to attempt this particular challenge due to the restrictions currently in place. Rest assured that we will be revisiting this particular challenge in the future when life is less restricted.[/p][p]In the meantime, the club have devised an alternative event to take place on Saturday 20th June, and one which should provide a challenge on both a personal and a club level. So, for this year, we will be running a 252 Challenge.[/p][p]The 252 archery round is 36 arrows shot on a 122cm face at imperial distances of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 and 100 Yards. Scoring is also imperial, so;[/p][p]Gold = 9 points[/p][p]Red = 7 Points[/p][p]Blue = 5 Points[/p][p]Black = 3 Points[/p][p]White = 1 Point[/p][p]The idea being, that to successfully shoot a 252 round, an archer should achieve 252 or more points (out of a maximum 324). The 252 score is based on recurve bows, but scores are adjusted for different bow types to keep it fair. As an example an archer shooting a compound bow requires 292 point to be successful and a long bow archer only needs 164 points.[/p][p]On the day we would like as many archers as are allowed by the restrictions in place, to come along and shoot a 252 round. [/p][p]The personal challenge to each archer is to achieve at least 3x 252 compatible scores at different and more challenging distances.[/p][p]Our club challenge for the day is to have at least 3 archers achieve a 252 'pass' at each of the 7 imperial distances. The reason for this is that the number 21 is significant in Downs Syndrome, as it is a duplication of the 21st Chromosome that causes DS. So, by having 3 different archers successfully complete a 252 round at each of the 7 distances, we will have 21 new 252 records.[/p][p]Please show your support for our archers and this fantastic charity by making a donation.[/p][p]You can donate using: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/OvBA . Alternatively, you can pledge via our website: www.overtonblackarrows.org.[/p][p][br][/p][p]ORIGINAL CHALLENGE (Replaced by above) - Race the Sun with Overton Black Arrows[/p][p]To raise as much money as we can, on the 20th June, we will be attempting to shoot 307km of Arrows. This is equivalent to the distance that the sun moves at our latitude between sunrise and sunset. Archers of all disciplines and skill levels will be shooting from 5am until 9pm to attempt to make this happen. [/p][p]You can donate using: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/OvBA . Alternatively, you can pledge per km on our website: www.overtonblackarrows.org. [/p][p]Should we have to postpone due to COVID-19 we will make the attempt later in the year.[/p][p][br][/p][p]About the Overton Black Arrows[/p][p]Originally established in 1962, the Overton Black Arrows archery club was founded to allow members to enjoy all aspects of the sport of archery from beginner tuition, recreational archery through to competition coaching. The club is affiliated with Archery GB, Southern Counties Archery Society (SCAS) and the Hampshire Archery Association (HAA).[/p][p]Members currently shoot a variety of disciplines including Target, Field and Clout using Recurve, Barebow, Compound, flatbow and Long Bows.[/p][p]The club meets at its outdoor range in Laverstoke (between Overton and Whitchurch) all year and also once a week at its 18 metre indoor range in Whitchurch during the winter. We also meet regularly at our Field Archery course in Kingsclere.[/p]
