My story

[p]Alasdair is a friend who's son, Felix, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.[/p][p]Duchenne is an incurable and fatal muscle wasting disease that affects 1 in 3,500 boys making it the most common genetic killer of children. Patients have a near normal life to age 6 or 7, after which they deteriorate quickly, ending up in a wheel chair by age 10 to 12, on a ventilator and feeding tube by their late teens, before enduring a lingering, painful death, usually of heart failure, in their 20’s.[/p][p]The good news is that some fantastic new treatments are starting to emerge and there is now a strong feeling in the Duchenne community that a cure is very likely in the next 10 years. Funding therefore has a very tangible outcome, directly affecting the lives of over 300,000 children globally with the disease.[/p][p]This June I am completing the Duchenne Dash, a London-Paris-Monaco ride together with Alasdair to raise money for Duchenne UK. I believe this is an amazing opportunity to make a genuine difference to hundreds of thousands of families, like Alasdair's, who are caring for children with the disease.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
