Team story

[p]Officially launched in September 2013, the ambitious On The Road To Recovery challenge is a campaign backed by several leading North West businesses to raise £1million for The Christie's new mobile chemotherapy trucks which are enabling cancer sufferers in the region to get treatment closer to home.[/p] [p]The campaign kicked off with an amazing start last month, with eight leading North West businessmen raising over £220,000 whilst tackling the hardest stages of the Tour de France route in the process.[/p] [p]From the 14[sup]th[/sup] September to the 18[sup]th[/sup] September Mike Perls, CEO of MC2 and Rob Cotton, CEO of NCC Group, battled to complete 600 km of mountain cycling in the French Alps. They were joined by Rob Pailin of RBS, Lee-J Walker of TheBusinessDesk.com, Marcello Distefano of San Carlo Restaurant, Jason Scales from the Velodrome, James Bilham of Hill Dickinson, and Peter Oakes, also of Hill Dickinson. Despite severe weather conditions and risk of injury the amateur cyclists completed five iconic stages including Mont Ventoux, Col de Vars and Alpe d’Huez, and climbed the equivalent height of Mount Everest in the process.[/p] [p]The next challenge was the sell-out Funny Business event in October, which saw another eight of Manchester's business community take to the stage in a nerve-racking comedy act. Appearing alongsideCaroline Shaw of The Christie and Deloitte UK Executive Sharon Thorne was Elaine Birchall of PZ Cussons, Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham, DX Group CEO Petar Cvetkovic, Richard Duerr of Duerr’s Jam, founder of Chess Telecom David Pollock and Senior Independent Director of Fenner Plc Vanda Murray.Guided by their professional mentors participants worked tirelessly on their material for almost a year in a bid to be crowned the funniest act of the night, and it managed to raise a further £63,000 for the wider On the Road to Recovery Campaign. [/p] [p]There are plenty of plans in the pipeline to help achieve the £1million goal and the support so far has been overwhelming. [/p] [p]Follow us on twitter @Rd2recovery[/p]
