PAWS GIST

[p]PAWS-GIST is a specialist initiative of the charity GIST Cancer UK. [/p][p]GIST (Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumour) is a rare form of cancer. PAWS-GIST (Paediatric Adolescent Wild-type and Syndromic GIST) is a rare subset of GIST cancer, often found in children and young adults. There is no cure for this cancer and treatment options are limited. PAWS-GIST aims to fund research and improve the outlook for patients with this very rare cancer.[/p][p]Since the PAWS-GIST initiative was created in 2010 we have formed the PAWS-GIST clinic; an alliance with specialists at Addenbrooke’s hospital, Cambridge. The clinic enables individual patient consultations with a multidisciplinary team of specialists and provides tailored treatment plans. The clinic also serves as a research project by providing a wealth of information on this rare disease. To-date we seen over 100 patients.[/p][p]In addition to the PAWS-GIST clinic, our initiative also funds several research projects, aiming to further our understanding of this disease and develop new treatment options.
