My story

[p]It is not often that you get to collaborate so closely with those less fortunate; therefore let’s make every opportunity count! Help me raise funds for Nyumbani UK & The Hotcourses Foundation, an NGO that helps children in Kenya who are infected or affected by HIV, most of them orphans.[/p][p]I want to do my part and you can help out too! In just a couple of weeks, on September 16th, I will be taking part in the Brighton & Hove Olympic Triathlon. This will be my first ever triathlon so it will surely prove very challenging. My road to success is twofold: firstly it is through a proper and serious training regime which I have committed to, but secondly and most importantly, I need you to help me spread awareness of how distressing HIV has been in some African regions and to raise funds for the education of the children at Nyumbani.[/p][p]Nyumbani means home in Swahili. Nyumbani is home to hundreds of HIV infected or affected children in Kenya. HIV is one of the most devastating diseases in human history. In Kenya, there are roughly 1.2 million orphans, of which 80,000 are affected by HIV.[/p][p]Nyumbani UK & The Hotcourses Foundation was started 25 years ago and now supports over 4,000 children in Kenya through 3 key programmes:[/p][p]- Nyumbani Village: a self-sustaining community for over 1,000 orphans and elders built from scratch. It’s 3 hours outside Nairobi and it provides education and housing to students from a young age through to tertiary education to enable them to progress, secure a successful job or even set up their own business.[/p][p]- Nyumbani Children’s Home: an orphanage caring after 120 children who are HIV+, giving them the best nutritional, medical, psychological and academic care available until they enter adulthood and are self-reliant.[/p][p]- Lea Toto: a clinic assisting 3,000 HIV+ children living within eight slums across Nairobi, providing food, uniforms, books and paying for school fees as well as medical care, including access to anti-retroviral drugs and counselling.[/p][p]Nyumbani’s efforts lay very close to my heart as I had the chance to experience all three projects first hand. I was impressed and pleased to witness how many children truly benefit from Nyumbani’s work in Kenya and I strongly believe their track record merits ongoing support. Ever since returning I continuously seek ways to deliver support for Nyumbani. [/p][p]I am going to do my part through every stroke, every pedal and every step but that is not enough to succeed. I need you to do your part as well.[/p][p]Come join me in this adventure by contributing and spreading awareness of this cause. Any amount donated will go directly towards funding the educational elements of Nyumbani’s programmes. Remember: a solid education provides a way for the vulnerable to pull themselves out of poverty. [/p][p]These children need our help. I am going to fight for Nyumbani UK & The Hotcourses Foundation, are you?[/p][p][br][/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iHho3aVnY8M?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p]
