Team story

[p]“Pass The Smile” is a project set up to help charities supporting the parents and children affected by the form of cancer known as Rhabdomyosarcoma. In June 2018, Ben Crowther (aged 6) was diagnosed with a rare form of Rhabdomyosarcoma. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment under the care of the incredible NHS staff of the Paediatric Oncology team (Ward 18: Oncology) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH). [/p][p]Since diagnosis, Ben’s family have received invaluable support from several charities as they start to understand Ben’s condition and how best to support him. The most notable charities include Molly Olly’s for their incredible ‘Olly The Brave’ series of toys and books explaining cancer and it’s treatment to children, and CLIC Sargent (Birmingham) for their practical assistance with the non-medical aspects of young lives with cancer. Whilst treatment and outcomes have improved considerably for childhood cancers over the last few decades, we believe that Rhabdomyosarcoma is still under-researched. [/p][p]We wish to help raise funds to increase the understanding of this disease so that kinder, gentler treatments and cures can be developed. Our route to this is to support the work of two charities that specifically find research into Rhabdomyosarcoma: “Children with Cancer UK" and “The Chris Lucas Trust”. During Ben’s long road to recovery, we know that smiles, laughter and general silliness is helping him through, so we are raising money, generating pledges and increasing awareness so we can all do something to ‘Pass The Smile’ to others. [/p][p]We believe in collective effort, so no matter how big or small your fundraising endeavor, you can post it here to show your support for Ben. [/p][p]To clarify, the 5 charities your donation will help support are CLIC Sargent, BCH Ward 18 Oncology, Molly Olly's wishes, Children with Cancer UK and The Chris Lucas Trust. If you wish to simply make a pledge on how you will ‘Pass The Smile’ today, then you can visit our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/passthesmileOrg), where you can post a message of support or use twitter https://twitter.com/passthesmileorg[/p]
