My story

[p]29th June 2021...[/p][p]... will be the 10th anniversary of a beautiful, sunny day in Singapore when I set off for an early morning bike ride. That ride ended abruptly and disastrously, with me lying paralysed in the roadside gutter and with a less than 10% chance of ever walking again.[/p][p]I want to commemorate that day, because it changed my life, and the life of my family, forever. It's a day for reflection, to respect my spinal cord injury and the never ending struggles it has brought. But its also a day to celebrate and say thank you: for my good fortune and achievements in the face of adversity; and for the countless lessons I've learned, the wonderful things I've done and seen, the places I've been and the amazing people I've met across the last decade. Its also a day to thank my family, friends and colleagues who have played such a crucial part in helping me and my wife and kids through it all.[/p][p]That deserves a proper event. I've chosen a trek.[/p][p]The route will be a 10 mile section of the South West Coastal Path along Dorset's spectacular Jurassic Coast, from West Bay to Charmouth.[/p][p]The distance simply had to be 10 of something. Miles was the first thing that popped into my head! Then it occurred to me that whilst I've walked 10km in a day post-accident, I've never done 10 miles! So that'd be quite an achievement.[/p][p]I'll be fundraising for three charities that mean a great deal to me:[/p][p]Spinal Research, the first charity I supported post injury, which funds medical research around the world to develop life changing treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury;[/p][p]Back Up, which provides vital support and activities to transform the lives of people with spinal cord injury;[/p][p]Designability, which creates and provides products that enable disabled people to live with greater choice and independence.[/p][p]My target will be £10,000 (naturally!). That's a big ask, but I've been totally blown away by the support for my previous efforts, so I'm setting my sights high.[/p][p]If you can join me or support me in any way, that would be very much appreciated.[/p]
