My story

[p]Hi I'm Paul and I am taking part in Strictly Tech Dancing this year. I can't dance for love nor money, but I can raise money for a great cause in Sports Traider and looking forward to giving back.[/p][p]‘Sports Traider Charity will provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of children and adults who have need of such facilities by reason of disability, financial hardship and/or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.’ [/p][p]Sport should be accessible to all, and hopefully by raising money for Sports Traider we can make a difference to those that need it most.[/p][p]I'll post regular updates here of my progress :)[/p][p]If I reach my ultimate target, I'll share the story of how this all came about :)[/p][p]***[/p][p]Blog Entries which I finally got round to uploading. Enjoy[/p][p][br][/p][p]30 October 2019: D-Day or should I Say T-Day![/p][p]First practise tonight. Dance confirmed as tango, I am terrified! The dancefloor’s on fire! Whooosshh![/p][p]I have never done anything like this before and to say I’m terrified is an understatement, although a tiny bit excited also but not to extent of Pointer Sisters excited![/p][p]So now that the dust has settled and reality has set in a phenomenal rate of knots, I had no idea how much effort needs to go into this thing, the oul Irish attitude of “Turn Up and Give it a lash” is not going to do me any favours here, so to that extent there’s a new regime in place and it started on Saturday 26th![/p][p]In order to change from a beer swilling, kebab guzzling monster to a Dancefloor Hero that keeps UpToDate with the latest trends and fashions (the last bit is a by-product), the following changes have had to be made ☹[/p][p]No more pints[/p][p]No more lunchtime greggs[/p][p]No more kebabs[/p][p]Minimal Carbs[/p][p]Back to the gym[/p][p] And not to mention the 4 hours dancing every Wednesday night![/p][p] Bring.It.On [/p][p]07 November 2019: [/p][p]So two lessons in, my head is melted, posture is woeful. Best stick to throwing shapes in the kebab shop…..but..a massive improvement on the first week. The pace is tough, unrelenting but as anything, with practice we can only get better. This I can say is by far and away the toughest thing I have ever done, I am so far out of my comfort zone it hurts but what dosen’t kill you makes you stronger.[/p][p]The past two weeks have been learning the basic steps with a recap next week, then the chroegrapoghy starts next week along with the music. It just got real… [/p][p]14 November 2019[/p][p]The choreography kicked in last night and in a way it’s easier to focus on this element than the previous two weeks where we were learning all the movements. Since having no natural rhythm, I have got our tune on repeat and hitting every surface to get myself in time. [/p][p]Went at the weekend to pick out the oul dancing shoes, suede sole so plenty of movement is on the cards but no sliding on the knees as if we’ve just scored the winner in a cup final ☹ but we can’t have it all….[/p][p]Also the camera crew turned up last night, taking footage of some of the rehearsal, I fear to see that…plus asking us questions about how we got involved…drowning sorrows after losing a rugby world cup quarter final is a good a reason as any. Isn’t it?[/p][p]25 Nov 2019:[/p][p][br][/p][p]I have reached my initial target of £500, and as such, I have encountered the first forfeit..Changing my name on our internal systems to "Paul Flamenco Foley. Deep Joy.[/p][p]Next target is £1000. Chest Wax.....Urrggghhh[/p][p]***[/p][p]03 December 2019[/p][p]So passed the £1000 over the weekend, have to get the chest waxed now, no pain no gain? or words to that effect. The big day is coming around fast i.e. tomorrow! One last push to help Sports Traider Charity as much as possible![/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
