My story

[p]Hello![/p][p]Welcome to the return of ‘Challenge’![/p][p]The project enters its fourth iteration with a series of marathon runs across the year. Initially the idea was to attempt one marathon per season but due to injury and logistics the itinerary is as follows:[/p][p]WINTER: River Otter Marathon (18/03/19) – Run the entire length of the river from its source in Otterford to where it joins the sea at Budleigh Salterton (Approx. 28 miles)[/p][p]SPRING: Pembrokeshire Marathon (27/04/19) – Part of the Endurance Life Coastal Trail Running series, this run will cover over 900m of ascent (27.8 miles)[/p][p]SUMMER: Nidderdale Way (28/08/19-29/08/19) – Back-to-back marathons on two consecutive days covering both loops of the 53 mile long-distance footpath (25 miles + 28 miles)[/p][p]AUTUMN: Bournemouth Marathon (06/10/19) – Part of the Bournemouth Marathon Festival, this is the only event where I’ll be seeking a competitive race time ([lt] 4 hours)[/p][p]These endurance challenges are a combination of professionally run events in which I intend to become a public participant, and personally set challenges which will be completed either solo or with the support of friends and family.[/p][p]After three years supporting Hospiscare and raising in excess of £3000 for the charity, this year ‘Challenge’ will be raising money for the mental health charity Mind. This organisation offers information, support and advice to the one in six UK adults who suffer with common mental health problems such as depression or anxiety (2014 Adult Psychiatric Morbidity survey). As someone who has intermittently experienced issues with depression since university, and who uses exercise as a means of maintaining their mental health, it seemed apt to adopt Mind as the charity of choice for the next three years of ‘Challenge’. [/p][p]This short video illustrates how Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding so that everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPxHTZRwXX8[/p][p]If you wish to sponsor any part of this endeavour, whether it be each event individually or the challenge as a whole, you can do so through Virgin Money Giving. This is a not-for-profit organisation able to process donations and claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible. [/p][p]This is what your donation could do:[/p][p]£10 could allow us to send essential information booklets about mental health to 40 people.[/p][p]£40 could pay for 28 people to campaign for change on our behalf.[/p][p]£70 could keep our online community, Elefriends, open and safe for two hours. [/p][p]£120 could offer a lifeline to eight people in desperate need of support from our Mind legal line.[/p][p]£200 could help us keep the Mind Infoline open for 1 hour, helping 35 people.[/p][p]£300 could support a young person bereaved by suicide to access 1:1 and group support. [/p][p]£550 could provide five people struggling with their mental health a place in a 10-week wellbeing group with team sports and cookery.[/p][p]You will be able to follow my progress with video diaries and photographs posted on my Facebook page linked below:[/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/Challenge-2019-1183370028358812/[/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for donating towards this worthy cause. I am, once more, hugely grateful for your continued support [/p][p]xx[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
