My story

[p]17th May 2020:[/p][p]Paul's just completed another 10K training run. He's just sent us some videos including a short clip of him running with his brilliant dog, Vince, as pacemaker.[/p][p]Watch the videos and read more about Paul's run: https://drcbeds.org.uk/uncategorized/pauls-running-10k-to-raise-funds-for-our-charity/[/p][p]15th May 2020:[/p][p]Here is an update on Paul’s progress to 10K and £1500 for our charity[/p][p]Paul told us yesterday: ‘I ran 7k this morning at 6:30am (but my wife ran 8.5k at same time!) and aiming for another 10k(ish) run over the weekend.[/p][p]I haven’t had a beer since last weekend but can’t promise not to at the weekend.[/p][p]As Boris has told me personally, that I can now run in the countryside (and for as far as I want and for as long as I want), then to the fields it will be on the 25th May.[/p][p]One of my friends who works for a brewery has promised me a delivery of beer if I can get under an hour – unfortunately for me his beer is safe!”[/p][p]Donations are coming in on this page and via text message direct to our charity.[/p][p]To donate £5 by mobile phone text: Simply text DRCBEDS to 70085.[/p][p]Paul’s raising money in support of our vital services during the coronavirus crisis, for disabled people and carers in Bedfordshire and Luton.[/p][p]Read more about Paul's run and how you can support him raising funds for our charity: https://drcbeds.org.uk/uncategorized/pauls-running-10k-to-raise-funds-for-our-charity/[/p][p]-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/p][p]About Paul's 10K run...[/p][p]Paul said "I'm running 10K to raise funds for our charity[/p][p]Please send your donations in support of The Disability Resource Centre, in Dunstable.[/p][p]A little about how I got here...[/p][p]I was geared up mentally to do the Vitality London 10K which was obviously cancelled due to the current situation and so instead I’m running on my own, live on Facebook. [/p][p]On the 25th May, come rain (or snow!) I’m running 10K and hoping people will sponsor me to support our charity in Dunstable.[/p][p]Why did I decide to do this? Well, my wife is very healthy and I’m trying to lose some weight (1 stone so far) and hadn’t run for 30 odd years, so I thought it’s about time to get serious with my health. [/p][p]It took me a while to actually get my head around attempting this and believe me, for a start it hurt every time I went running. Although I still find it challenging I am now pretty confident and starting to enjoy a run, especially now I can run for longer and enjoy the lovely countryside.[/p][p]I’m only averaging around 7 minutes per kilometre so 10K will take me 70 to 80 minutes of running. [/p][p]I hope to do a live broadcast at the beginning, at the midpoint, and at the end.”[/p][p]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/p][p]"The Disability Resource Centre will be posting about my progress on their Facebook page in the days up to the event. You’ll be able to track my progress on the Facebook page, on day too.[/p][p]So please support me to raise vital funds for The Disability Resource Centre.[/p][p]During the coronavirus crisis the charity has been helping many more people with vital help and support. [/p][p]The Disability Resource Centre is helping local people find support for shopping, medications, befriending services, claiming PIP benefits and many more…[/p][p]Read how they've helped vulnerable people during the coronavirus crisis this week:[/p][p]– Mrs S hasn’t left her home in 3 months, she’s barely seen the postman. We were able to get her prescriptions delivered as well as find her details for local shops to deliver some essentials.[/p][p]– Mr G had his tri-walker stolen while he was in hospital, we have used the ‘Chat and no contact collect service’ to talk to him, find a suitable replacement and get a walker to him so he can get around safely.[/p][p]– Mr K was medically retired and wanted to apply for PIP, so we booked a telephone consultation with one of our expert disability benefits advisors. He has since been able to apply for PIP with all the information and advice he needed to be successful.[/p][p]– Mr and Mrs L are shielding and they have no family locally. They needed some essentials and wanted someone to talk to. We were able to refer them to a local service to have a befriender call them, as well as deliver them some essential shopping.[/p][p]You can read more about the centre on their website: https://drcbeds.org.uk/[/p][p]I really appreciate your support,[/p][p]Paul Robson."[/p]
