My story

[p]Paul is taking part in the Great Eastern Run [/p][p]Hi and thank you for reading my charity page! Please think of giving ...[/p][p]I started running at the tender age of 63 and ran my first 10k race in March this year. On 13th October 2019 I’ll be running my first half marathon – a daunting prospect but the training is going reasonably well![/p][p]I am a teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in City College Peterborough, a small, friendly college with an inclusive ethos. I have been teaching refugees and new arrivals for 20 years. So ... what better than to fundraise for the Ruth Hayman Trust? The charity awards grants to people whose first language isn’t English (mainly refugees) and enables them to do any course from English to dentistry. Many people arrive in the UK with valuable skills from their own country but need to do additional qualifications to work in the UK. A small grant can help them realise their full potential. There are some great case studies on their website on how this has helped people further their skills and careers.[/p][p]Importantly, 94% of funding goes directly to beneficiaries since the Trust’s work is run through a dedicated group of volunteer workers. So, if you give £5, £4.70 will go directly to the beneficiaries.[/p][p]Please donate to my chosen charity.[/p][p]Important update: please note that the Great Eastern Run was cancelled on 13 October due to a suspected 'firearms incident' - a great disappointment to those who had trained hard for the event and were waiting to start running. In order to fulfil my pledge I will be running instead in the Luton Half-Marathon on 27 October 2019 still in support of the Ruth Hayman Trust. Thank you to all who have contributed so far ... just to let you know that I will be running in spite of the setback.[/p][p][img][/img]Thank you for your support![/p][p]Paul[/p]
