My story

[p]CYCLING 210 miles in a day[/p][p][br][/p][p]On Sunday 13th June 2021, I am setting off from Bristol on my road bike to cycle 210 miles. Why? Well, I am enormously proud to be an ambassador for two remarkable charities, both of whom are facing distinctly bleak futures due to the dramatic effect of Covid19.[/p][p]"Every little helps" as they say, and this is my attempt to try and raise some much-needed funds - so if you can spare a few quid, I’d be enormously grateful.[/p][p]So I'm setting off from Abbots Leigh and heading south via Weston, Bridgwater, Bruton, Frome and then turning and heading back north to Melksham, Malmesbury, Stroud, Gloucester then turning back south at Over to Quedgeley, Cinderford, St Briavels, Tintern, Chepstow and finally back to Bristol - it's the equivalent of cycling from Bristol to Leeds but with c10,000 ft of ascent.[/p][p]Admittedly, I am a keen cyclist but this is still a significant challenge for me - both physically and mentally.[/p][p] ***[/p][p]Enormous thanks must go to my friend Oli Beckingsale who has planned the route and will be my companion and super ‘domestique’ along with good friends David Venables and Mark Kennedy who are my super super domestiques![/p][p]If you don’t know him, Oli is quite good on a bike. He's a three times Olympic and 17 times world champion cyclist. When not riding his bike, Oli co-owns BW Cycling in Bristol, in my opinion the best bike shop, period! [/p][p]The two fantastic charities that I'm raising funds for are:[/p][p]1) FRANK Water - a wonderful Bristol-based charity that provides access to clean water for poor and isolated villages in rural India. I have seen first-hand the difference to these villages FrankWater’s amazing work brings. To date, FrankWater has helped over 400,000 people in 549 villages access safe, clean drinking water, clean sanitation and hygiene training.[/p][p]Several of its key fundraising events planned have been cancelled due to Covid19 and as you will have seen in the news, Covid is now decimating parts of India.[/p][p]www.frankwater.com[/p][p]2) Bristol Sport Foundation - another exceptional Bristol-based charity who are responsible for designing, delivering and funding life-changing initiatives to over 8,000 children every week, using the power of sport to engage and inspire change. It has been awarded eight parliamentary awards for its programmes. One of their main fundraising events ‘Break the Cycle’ has sadly been put on hold for a second year - although it's now a virtual event, not being able to hold its primary fundraising event impacts greatly.[/p][p]www.bristol-sport.co.uk/our-community/[/p][p][br][/p][p]So I'd be enormously grateful for anything you can spare - it all makes a difference! Anyway, got to go as I'd better put some miles in on the bike😊[/p]
