Team story

[p]The Pharmacist Cooperative team will be cycling from London to Amsterdam in aid of Pharmacist Support and Shelter on 24th, 25th and 26th August 2019.[/p][p]Our plan for this challenge is to cycle around 83 miles from London to Harwich on the first day, get the ferry to the Hook of Holland, then embark on a truly magnificent coastal ride on the second day before heading into the heart of Holland around 53 miles to the wonderful city of Amsterdam![/p][p]Pharmacist Support is an organisation that truly works well with our ethos at the Pharmacist Cooperative and have been supporting the Pharmacy profession and their loved ones in their time of need since 1841 to offer free and confidential assistance such as a mental health wellbeing service, Listening Friends counselling service, addiction support programme and respite care, financial assistance in the form of grants, debt, benefits and employment advice and much much more. With more and more Government Pharmacy cutbacks, workplace pressure, salary drop and shortage of Pharmacists for example, the support is needed greater than before and we hope to raise awareness together for this fantastic independently-run charity for the good of our profession that we need to preserve and continue to serve our patients with their healthcare needs in the UK.[/p][p]We're also supporting Shelter because as Pharmacists, we come across many homeless patients in our line of work and are great at signposting and ensure ongoing care as they are still our patients and have a duty of care to serve them, especially with their general health as various social factors have unfortunately seen an increase in the number of homeless people in the UK and the Pharmacist Cooperative are keen to raise awareness and support for this population as charity starts at home.[/p]
