My story

<p>I have had the pleasure in supporting SSAFA for over 17 years. The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) - Forces Help is the leading national charity committed to helping and supporting those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve, and the families of both.&nbsp; SSAFA Forces Help adapts to meet the changing needs of those who serve in our Armed Forces. From the day they join and for the rest of their lives, our soldiers, sailors and airmen can depend on SSAFA. Each year they assist 50,000 people. 2010 marks SSAFA&rsquo;s 125th anniversary and they are hoping to raise an extra &Acirc;&pound;1.25million through &lsquo;SSAFA 125&rsquo; fundraising initiatives towards vital work providing direct, practical support to our servicemen and women and their families. &nbsp;I will be walking the SSAFA mile with Andy Grant.&nbsp; Andy, 21, is from Liverpool. He joined the Royal Marines when he was 17. &nbsp; In February 2009, with just six weeks to go until the end of the tour, Andy and a friend were caught in an IED explosion triggered by a trip wire. Andy sustained shrapnel wounds to all four limbs and his face, the bones of his right leg were smashed and his femoral artery was severed. He has only recently had a metal frame removed from his injured leg and is due to start further rehabilitation next month. Andy and I hope you will donate to support the thousands of soldiers, Sailors and Airmen and their families who need vital support.</p> <p>Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.</p>
