My story

[p]Hi! Thanks very much for visiting my page! Please see below to find out about the amazing work that MapAction do, and donate as much as you can spare to help me support their cause.[/p] [p][/p][hr/][p]Firstly, I'd like to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the generous companies who have donated prizes for my raffle!! I am incredibly grateful to the following companies for their fantastic donations:[/p] [ul] [li]Matt at Riverford Organic Farmers for a Riverford Vegetable box of the worth of £20 - https://www.riverford.co.uk/shop/veg-fruit-meat-boxes (#lifeontheveg, @Riverford)[/li] [li]Carol and Sally at the Flapjackery company for an amazing gift box of flapjacks - http://flapjackery.co.uk/ (@flapjackery)[/li] [li]Peter at Bays Brwery for a Bays Brewery gift pack - http://www.baysbrewery.co.uk/Our-beers (@BaysBrewery)[/li] [li]Roger and Clare at CRS Adventures for four tickets to go on the High Ropes Course at River Dart Country Park - http://riverdart.co.uk/family-park-attractions/dare-devils (@RiverDartCP)[/li] [/ul][p][hr/][/p][p]So, I’m running the London Marathon on the 23[sup]rd[/sup] April, 2017!! This is my first marathon, and after only ever running 10 miles, I’m going to need to put in a lot of effort to make it on the day!![/p] [p]Last year I was a bit more sensible and decided to start with a half-marathon. Unfortunately, I injured my knee not long before so I had to drop out. In honesty I was pretty upset after the training I’d put in (as I’m not one of those crazy people who can go out and run with no training at all!). But this time I’m intent on making sure the same doesn’t happen, and I run the full 26.2 miles with no injuries![/p] [p]So, although slightly less prepared than I’d like, I put myself forward to run the London Marathon this year with the big dogs – watch out Mo ;) (there’s always a small chance I’d beat him!). This is because the chance to run for an amazing charity came about; I have admired the incredible work that MapAction do for some time, and I am so honoured that I can finally show my support.[/p] [p]I’m going to be brave and announce my goal time to make sure that I put in the effort to reach it. So (drum roll), I’m hoping to run the marathon in…[/p] [p][/p] [p][span=background-color: #ffff00;][lt]span style="background-color: #ffffff;"[gt]           [/span][span=background-color: #ffffff;] [/span]!!!!4hrs 30mins!!!![lt]/span[gt][/p] [p][/p] [p]Some of you might not think that’s overly fast, but for me it’s a challenge! I am going to need to train hard, and train right, in order to ensure I don’t injure myself again, so I’ll make sure to keep you up to date with my progress and hopefully get some pitty donations when I’m out in the dark/rain/frosty nights :P[/p] [p]For an extra kick up the bum to ensure I reach my goal, [span=background-color: #ffff00;]I solemnly swear to donate £1 for every minute I’m over my target time[/span] (which doesn’t mean you can try and trip me or spike my Lucozade to get me to pay more).[/p] [p]Please take some time to check out MapAction using the link below.[/p] [p][/p][hr/][p][/p] [p]A little word from me first… MapAction do not receive funding from large public appeals, so they rely heavily on their supporters in order to keep their incredible work going.[/p] [p]MapAction instantly deploys GIS professions out to areas of humanitarian crisis in order to immediately support the emergency aid responses. Their team of volunteers are made up of people who have normal lives, but drop everything in times of crisis in order to reach the scene within 24-48 hours of disaster striking. I think this is unbelievably admirable, and it will be all I’m thinking about on the day of the marathon to keep me going – if they can do that, I should be able to run a few miles shouldn’t I!?[/p] [p]Please follow this link to find out more about MapAction: https://mapaction.org/[/p] [p]Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and an even bigger thank you if you can spare a donation to support MapAction![/p] [p]Thanks so much![/p] [p]Pip xx[/p] [p][/p] [p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
