My story

[p]For those of you that know me well would be very aware that I am not cyclist or a kayaker and never have been. I don't ride bikes, paddle boats or wear lyrca and didn’t have plans on getting into it either...until now.[/p][p]This August I will join the Virgin STRIVE Challenge 2018 - a month-long purpose-led adventure from the southern tip of Sardinia to the top of Mt. Blanc. I will Cycle 4 days at a min 100km/1000m accent per day and Sea Kayak 2 days through the Alghero Gulf at 10km per day. I should have started training last year and I’m way out of my depth but as always there is a story.[/p][p]Not long after touching down in the UK four years ago, I met a crazy awesome group of people who had an idea to invent an ultra-endurance event called The Virgin STRIVE Challenge. In short, they bring together diverse groups of people for extreme physical challenges to raise money for a charity called Big Change.[/p][p]Big Change is a charity that sets out to re imagine education founded by Sam & Holly Branson and Princess Beatrice. The money raised from STRIVE backs projects and organisations that teach children that having growth mindsets and life skills are just as important to thriving in life as doing well in exams. Think public speaking, emotional resilience and environmental awareness. Something which on personal level I wholeheartedly believe in and was lucky enough to have parents who did too.[/p][p]The team's first STRIVE vision in 2014 was to get from London to the top of the Matterhorn in Switzerland by running, rowing, cycling and hiking for over a month straight. No other form of transport. The idea was crazy but infectious, so I joined the event logistics team. I had the privilege of getting to know the amazing Strivers who challenged themselves physically and emotionally to complete the epic first STRIVE. Post event, I was hooked and worked alongside Big Change to bring these projects to life. Since then, STRIVE has continued to create and complete crazy physical challenges each year around the world and are slowly making their way around the globe (watch out Australia!) I feel very lucky to have been a part of the STRIVE and Big Change family and will forever have the upmost respect for the group of people working on the event itself and amongst the projects it supports.[/p][p]I’m doing this because Big Change is setting out to change the game for young people and being lucky enough to know the people behind driving its purpose - they do what they say they will - and will change the world for the next generation.[/p][p]If that's not enough for you to dig deep - you can sponsor me to finish up looking like Miranda Kerr, because quite frankly if that’s not also the outcome, I’ll be pretty pissed off![/p][p][img][/img][/p][p][img][/img][/p]
