My story

[p]In 2016, 16 riders from Phoenix Group cycled over 100 miles from Basingstoke to Wythall to celebrate the coming together of Phoenix and AXA Wealth raising over £12,000 for Midlands Air Ambulance. In late 2018, Phoenix Group acquired Standard Life Assurance, based in the heart of Edinburgh. This has presented a new, bigger challenge for the Phoenix Riders – cycling from Standard Life House under the shadows of Edinburgh Castle, through the mountains of Southern Scotland, skirting Ullswater and Windermere in the Lake District, stopping for a breather at Bradley Wiggins’s Gold Olympic Postbox in Eccleston and finally down through the Midlands, arriving at our Wythall office a mere 328 miles later. [/p][p]This Challenge is set over 3 days of riding covering a total of 328 miles and 14302 ft. of climbing; each day will break down as follows:[/p][p]Day 1 (11 June) Edinburgh to Penrith - 112 miles and 4972 ft. of climbing https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29698524[/p][p]Day 2 (12 June) Penrith to Northwich - 128 miles and 5556 ft. of climbing https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29698776[/p][p]Day 3 (13 June) Northwich to Wythall - 88 Miles and 3774 ft. of climbing https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29699224[/p][p]This is where we need your help! Cycling 3 consecutive days of these distances is not easy – even for experienced cyclists. It will be tough and the team are likely to be cycling into headwinds to make it even harder. The route also includes the notorious Kirkstone Pass in the Lake District with a mile and a half of double digit gradients (i.e. really steep!!). We are doing this ride to raise money for Phoenix Group’s Corporate Chosen Charities of the 100% donation-funded Air Ambulances in the Midlands, London and Scotland. [/p][p]Each rider is looking to raise £750 each making our target total £7,500.[/p][p]With corporate matching this will raise £15,000 for some very worthy folk, who do a fantastic job of saving lives by getting those in need to the care they require in a fast and safe way.[/p][p]Our fantastic riders will be Adrian Blackman, Martin Cheatle, Simon Harris, David Hughes, Stuart MacLoed, Juli Rourke, Graham Stocks, Pete Tidmarsh, Nick Tickner, Austin Woulfe, Ian Watson, Diarmaid O'Sullivan and Louise Fleming and they will be joined by other riders on Days 1 and 3 for those that don’t fancy the full route. The riders will also be supported by Nigel Marston and his van of goodies and spares.[/p][p]Please dig deep and help us achieve our targets and make the pain of riding all those miles and hills worthwhile.[/p][p]Thank you.[/p][p] [/p]
