My story

[p]On the 11th June 2019 I (along with 3 other ladies) will be setting off on a long bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats. This is almost 1000 miles and a few hundred hills! It will take 15 days and I'll be carrying everything that I'll need along the way.[/p][p]It has been an ambition of mine to do this epic ride since hearing about it 7 years ago. I promptly bought a touring bike and joined a ladies cycling club. Starting out with short rides, I gradually increased the distances I could cycle. I have spent the last year planning the route, booking overnight stops and sorting out the logistics of getting me and my bike to and from the ends of Britain (a bit of a headache!). I am now in the final stages of preparation, making sure I am as fit as possible, undertaking long hilly rides in all weather and hoping for sunshine! [/p][p]I have chosen to raise funds for Worcester Sea Cadet Unit. My 2 sons have benefited hugely from being part of this unit, which provides opportunities for young people aged 10-18 years to gain confidence, skills, qualifications, a sense of responsibility, some amazing experiences and many friends. The Unit is being upgraded and all money raised will be spent replacing the Heads (toilets in landlubber speak!) - not overly glamorous it's true, but very essential. Disabled facilities will also be added to make this fabulous unit, which is run entirely by volunteers, accessible to everyone.[/p][p]I would love it if you could help me raise £1 for each mile I pedal.[/p][p]Follow my story on Facebook, search for "Pip's LEJOG Challenge"[/p][p]Follow my training rides and my End to End challenge on Strava, search for "Pip's LEJOG Challenge"[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update:[/p][p]Well, I completed my End to End bike ride through head wind, rain and hail. It was tough, but also an amazing adventure through our beautiful country. We met many kind people along the way who supported us with words of encouragement, advice on local routes/knowledge, cups of tea and also with donations to our causes.[/p][p]Thank you to all who have donated to Worcester Sea Cadets, by the time I have collected in offline donations we should have reached the target of £1000, which is absolutely wonderful :)[/p]

As someone that benefited greatly from being a cadet and instructor at the unit for many years, I couldn't think of a more worthy cause. The unit has help so many achieve so much. Good luck with the ride!
