My story

[p]In 2008, at the prime age of 21, I experienced my first taste of heavy grief which I still feel to this day. I lost one of my closest childhood friends, Daniel 'Playzo' De-Gale. Daniel is so dear to many and continues to live on in our hearts. 8th October 2020 will mark 12 years since his passing, and in loving memory I will be putting on a 12 Hour DJ Set fundraising for the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust. [/p][p]Daniel battled ill health from the tender age of 6 when he was diagnosed with an acute form of leukaemia. After 6 long years fighting blood cancer with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other toxic drugs, he received donated stem cells bone marrow from an unrelated donor in the USA giving him, and our family, 9 more wonderful years.[/p][p]In the last 2.5 years of Daniels life he was diagnosed with a condition called Haemolytic Anaemia premature breakdown of the red blood cells. He needed 3-5 units of blood each week to survive. He would leave home for University and make a detour to University College Hospital in London to receive donated blood before continuing to University. Alternatively, he'd go to University and stop off at the hospital to receive his bloods on his way home. Initially he managed well, even going on a couple of holidays with friends. However, the constant need for blood can be damaging to the body and Daniel sadly passed away from multiple organ failure in hospital surrounded by his family.[/p][p]Daniel's character was and aura was larger than life itself and he will never be forgotten.[/p][p]He did not have many years in his life but he had a lot of life in his years and as a result his legacy lives on through us.[/p][p]So what is this #PlayzoFM business all about ayy... why on earth am I DJ-ing for a whole TWELVE hours ayy???? Talk to meh![/p][p]Well... with Daniel, being one of the coolest guys in school with all the charms, impeccable hair cuts, the swag, the wit and girls chasing him (I wasn't jealous I promise), he just so happened to have the most ridiculous DJ set up at home and often showed off his musical skills at such a young age.[/p][p]I’m convinced if he was with us in person today, he would be a global star, his talent was insane![/p][p]With us both being a huge fan of the underground UK Garage scene, we developed a strong organic bond. His bedroom sound system inspired me to get into DJ'ing myself and when he found out I made beats he wanted to learn how to develop those skills too.[/p][p]DJ-ing for Daniel will be a personal tribute, showcasing the taste in music that shaped our years together. As well as it being recorded it will be live streamed for the world to tune in, give shout out's make requests in true pirate radio style like we used to. [/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF2dYb73F9A[/p][p]I would love to use my platform, to to pay tribute to a wonderful soul and raise awareness of such an important cause.[/p][p]Dan's parents, Bev & Orin are true trail blazers for the ACLT, in engaging the black community to provide a life line for those suffering from blood related cancers such as Leukaemia and other life-threatening disorders.[/p][p]ACLT has 2 main aims:[/p][p]1. Working alongside UK donor registries to ensure that anyone in need of a stem cell transplant does not have to wait for a matching donor to be found. The registries should have sufficient potential donors to give patients at least 1 matching donor ready and willing to save their life. Sadly, that is not currently the case.[/p][p]2. Assisting patients and families of patients through diagnosis, treatments, successful completion of treatments and sadly when a loved one is lost. This area of support was important for me because in the first few years of Daniels diagnosis I felt so lost and had very little support.[/p][p]I would like to raise £2000.00 for this vital cause in honour of Daniel De-Gale and to save other Daniels.[/p][p]I go by the name of DJ Tailor and 100% of the money raised from this DJ Set will be going to this black owned charity.[/p][p]Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.[/p][p]Catch the live stream on 8th October 2020 from 10am to 10pm https://youtu.be/i-fcjN5E0ug[/p][p]You can expect to hear Old School Garage, UK Funky & Grime, House & R&B vibes and so much more on the day![/p][p]Please donate from now to support the cause and help me reach my goal![/p][p]Be sure to check out the live stream on 08/10/20 here: https://youtu.be/i-fcjN5E0ug[/p][p]Check out some of Daniel's unreleased music on this tribute mixtape here: https://soundcloud.com/iloveplayzo/iloveplayzo[/p][p]Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
