My story

[p]St Albans’ sixth Polar Bear Plunge – with a socially-distanced difference![/p][p]What is the Polar Bear Plunge?[/p][p]Held each New Year’s Day since 2016, the famous Polar Bear Plunge usually sees locals including families, workmates and sports teams – many in fancy dress – taking a dip in the icy outdoor pool of the St Albans Sub Aqua Club – all for charity. [/p][p]Is the Plunge still going ahead?[/p][p]We are plunging AT HOME! Please take part in our POLAR BEAR PLUNGE SUSTAINABLE ICY BUCKET CHALLENGE at home and on social media to help keep the Plunge spirit alive for local charities![/p][p]You could win £100 if you enter our fancy dress competition! Sponsored by Affinity Water. Last year's amazing competition winners were a family of rainbows. [/p][p]In keeping with Earthworks’ principles of sustainability, and to offset the water usage of the event, those taking part are asked to forego a shower on a day of their choice...[/p][p]How to take part:[/p][p]1. Dust off your best fancy dress…[/p][p]2. Donate £5 to the Polar Bear Plunge on this page![/p][p]3. In the Christmas holidays, or on New Year’s Day, film or photograph yourselves with icy, polar water thrown or poured over you! Don’t forget to say you’ve donated, and nominate your friends to take part.[/p][p]4. Enter the competition: Post the photos or videos of your challenge online with the hashtag #plungestalbans or send to: plunge@earthworksstalbans.co.uk We will repost your photos and videos on our social media accounts. If you post on Instagram, don’t forget to use the Instagram nominate button to nominate your friends![/p][p]5. Why not download our social media badges - use these to nominate friends or tell the world you're a Polar Bear Plunge Sustainable Icy Bucket Challenge survivor![/p][p]6. Forego a shower on a day of your choice.[/p][p]Please follow current Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines. [/p][p]All profits go to local charities. Host charity Earthworks, which will receive 70% of proceeds, teaches horticulture to people with learning disabilities – known as Earthworkers – in their three acres of eco-gardens in St Albans. This year’s guest charity, receiving 30% of proceeds, will be Youth Talk, which provides free, confidential counselling to 13-25 year olds in St Albans and surrounding areas.[/p][p]For details, downloads and more, visit www.polarbearplunge.org.uk[/p]
