My story

[p]Here’s a fact... I hate running. I can’t breathe properly, it’s boring and quite frankly I’m far more comfortable in a yoga studio practicing the fine art of Savasana. I would describe my running technique as a blend of the 3 P’s - Phoebe (from Friends), Pingu and more of a plod. It therefore seemed obvious to sign up for the London Marathon - 26.2miles (don’t forget the .2!). It should come so naturally - well I am the current walking cliche of all the gear and no idea and I therefore implore you to sponsor me to make this insanity a little more bearable.[/p][p]So why did I take this challenge on, besides the glory... it comes down to one very simple thing, my Mum. [/p][p]In January 2017 my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. When I was 14, I watched her battle the disease for the first time undergoing a course of chemo and radiotherapy. After celebrating nearly 17 years cancer free we experienced how unforgiving this illness really can be. Mum had to make the life changing decision to have a mastectomy, which she did with such dignity and without grumbling that cancer had chosen her again. Such a decision can seem like a no brainer - remove the breast and survive, but I will never understand the impact this can have on your femininity and self confidence and I will always be in awe of my Mum and other breast cancer survivors. [/p][p]This is where Breast Cancer Care comes in... their support and care, through numerous groups and activities, meant that mum could battle round 2 head on and start to feel a sense of normality quicker and return to her wonderful self. It has also inspired her to set up her own local support group for other cancer sufferers and survivors and share the support and care she was so thankful for.[/p][p]I am therefore taking on this race to give back, say thank you, and do my bit to stand arm in arm with those who are currently battling, have battled and will unfortunately battle in the future.[/p][p]My marathon will be run through breasts, sweat and I’m sure many tears![/p]
