Team story

[p]Please let me introduce myself. I am Clive Christophers and live in Porthleven with my wife Cynthia, who is a local nurse.[/p][p]Along with my daughter, Tamsin Benner, I am running the London marathon to support 2 charities that have been an important part of our lives recently. [/p][p]These are the friends of Porthleven Surgery and the Cove Macmillan Centre at RCH Hospital, Treliske. [/p][p]In June 2016 I was diagnosed with non Hodgkin's lymphoma, which came as somewhat of a shock as cancer only happens to other people. Wrong, cancer has no favourites, does not discriminate, it is not sexist, racist, ageist, or any other 'ist'. [/p][p]Two months previous, I had run the Plymouth half marathon, along with Tamsin and my son in law James. Then in May, being a member of the Helston Town Band, played in four dances on flora day, completing the reputed 16 miles around the town. Fairly fit and healthy then, so I thought.[/p][p]A couple of weeks later, I became aware of what felt like a hair on the back of my tongue, I brushed it with my toothbrush, no improvement, no problem swallowing, no sore throat, just an annoying sensation.[/p][p]After some "gentle encouragement" from wife and family, I made an appointment to see Dr Drummond at Porthleven surgery. The result of this consultation was the beginning of a frightening journey into the unknown. [/p][p]We are extremely fortunate that Treliske hospital is one of the top hospitals for cancer care in the country. The equipment within the radiotherapy unit is state of the art and the level of professionalism is second to none. Throughout each of the treatment processes, the staff are so reassuring and compassionate. [/p][p]The Cove Macmillan Centre is a welcome oasis away from the emotional roller coaster and mayhem, where patients, family and friends can meet over a coffee, seek advice from counsellors, physiotherapists and obtain booklets and information on all cancer issues, in a non-clinical environment.[/p][p]We are running the marathon in recognition of the wonderful care and treatment that I received, from the first consultation at Porthleven surgery, right through to now attending 4 monthly check ups.[/p][p]This can only be a token gesture as our debt of gratitude can never be repaid.[/p][p]Please help us raise as much money as we can to help support these two charities so they in turn can support and treat present and future patients and families. [/p][p]Sponsorship can be donated online for Macmillan https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/PorthlevensCornishCrusaders and cash contributions will shared between our chosen charities. [/p][p]Thank you.[/p][p]Clive and Tamsin.[/p][p][br][/p]
